  1. Okay thanks for the advice! Sounds like I should just email a few people at each place then.
  2. How are you guys declining your acceptances? Are you emailing the people you interviewed with as well and thanking them for their time? I am unsure of the proper etiquette I want to decline at least a few this week to open up spots for people on waitlists. However, I am not sure if emailing all POIs is overkill. I definitely want to keep the connections I made open.
  3. Sorry just saw this - I heard back a few days after my interview in January
  4. Yes, I got accepted to Columbia. I believe all interview invites are done since they’re already doing acceptances. I wouldn’t worry too much though - it’s just one program and not all of your programs have to work out. You just need one!
  5. Congratulations! Have you or anyone else heard the final results of the interview yet? I also interviewed on Friday. They told me that they would be making decisions that evening, but I haven't heard anything yet. Wondering if that means I didn't make it...
  6. Has anyone from Columbia neurobiology & behavior interview heard back yet?
  7. MIT is done. Everyone who got the email and not rejected is on the back-up
  8. Ah okay, that’s great to hear!! Thanks for sharing.
  9. It’s definitely not entirely true my gpa is equally low and I also got interviews from several of the top places. however, I also know for a fact that there were gpa cutoffs at certain programs this year. If you didn’t make that mark then your application wasn’t sent forward for review. I only say this for future reference for people because I wish I had focused more on my gpa myself. there’s definitely still hope for everyone though!
  10. Does anyone know if Stanford Microbiology & Immunology is done?
  11. Congrats maya! Do you know if they’re sending more and did you get an official email? Also if you don’t mind, would you mind sharing the range of your gpa? I’be heard most programs are doing gpa cutoffs this year
  12. Getting a really high GRE will automatically pull up your grades, I wish I had spent more time on that now
  13. being international definitely doesn't help and it's also not something you can really change. So they claim that they are looking for people with the capacity to do really great research so having good letters of recommendations from a top lab, publications, extensive research etc really helps. However, I learned this year that that alone will not get you into the top programs. Unfortunately it seems like a lot of programs do have GPA cutoffs and with a subpar GRE such as myself that's not great. I think that the applicant most likely to get in already has top grades - if you look at the profiles on people at gradschool cafe I notice that almost everyone getting interviews has a 3.7-3.8 and great GREs. I thought that this wouldn't necessarily be the case, but it seems like it is. It's probably this and then a connection to a lab at the institution
  14. I know very few people straight from undergrad in neuro phd programs - I know people in other fields but not in neuro. Also, if you look at the profiles of current phd students at the top programs, almost nobody is straight from undergrad - there's usually only one
