  1. On the ApplyWeb page there should be a new gray space (often below checklist) which will say Decision Letter.
  2. Guys...I don’t know whether to feel hopeful or completely disheartened. I received the waitlist email for Minnesota. I know this means I’m not totally out of the running but I sort of feel my self-worth draining. Do I even bother to hold on to hope?
  3. Hi Friends, I'm in a bit of a anxiety induced panic. I haven't received word from one school regarding an acceptance or rejection. I've seen a few answers pop up on the results page, but I've neither received an email nor has the portal changed. I did receive a note from the department saying they have approved my application for 2020 consideration and a week or two later I received an email from the school itself discussing my state residency and how I could petition for in-state. One of my classmates received a rejection letter from this school last week. Should I reach out and request information about my application or let it be? I'm terrified I've received a rejection and the email was lost. They had originally told me I would hear in early Feb. but as other people are hearing...
  4. Let's start this Monday morning with a moment of silence. Let this be a good week everyone!
  5. Y’all who want a group chat. Message me your # and we can get get something going!
  6. Just received an email from a school I had applied to regarding my residency and how to petition for in-state as I’ll be working full time. The thing is...I never applied for residency and I haven’t received work (positive or negative) from this particular school. Should I take this to be a positive move? At the very least, I’ve made it to the next round of decision making? My anxious brain is looking for clues everywhere!
  7. Every time my phone buzzes my heart stops for a second.
  8. Hello to fellow applicants! Any one else feel like they are going absolutely insane waiting? I know that there is nothing left for me to do but sit it out and hope that I'm accepted somewhere. But goodness, I just feel like I'm going nuts. I feel nauseous 90% of the time. Can't sleep. Anyone else? FYI: I've applied to 13 literature programs for Ph.D. studies.
  9. This one is for all my "literature & language" folks. I'm currently teaching two recitations for introduction to literary theory. We've gone through structuralism, deconstruction, and psychoanalysis thus far. In the next couple of weeks, we are tackling feminist and queer theory. I really want to get my students to engage--especially with a topic that is so important and prominent in our current lives. Does any one have any advice for how to approach this?
  10. Hi y'all, So quick question for you all...my computer is currently dying a very slow death. It's gone from being able to last days to holding a FULL battery for maybe 4 hours. It's gotten pretty bad, so I'm in the market for a new laptop. I've been using a macbook for the last 6 years. I like the simplicity of it. But, that being said, I'm open to other idea's. I've been doing some research into the Microsoft Surface laptop which seems pretty close to the macbook. What does everyone else use? I'm looking for something with great battery life, easy to use, and will last me through my masters and (hopefully) Ph.D. Thank you all in advance!
  11. Hi all! I'm hoping to get some help here. I'm a first year masters student and I've begun looking into PhD programs to apply once I graduate. I know this might be somewhat early seeing as I'm not even close to finishing my degree yet, but I know that I'll have to apply by this time next year, so I might as well get a head start! My area of interest is 20th century American literature with an emphasis in feminist and ecocriticial analysis. I'm really interested/specialty in archival work. I've worked closely with texts that have been "forgotten" especially those written by women. I tend to lean more towards female writings and Native American writings of the West. So that's where I'm at with this. In terms of programs, ideally fully-funded and providing ample opportunities in either teaching or research. So far my list includes; UNL, University of Michigan, University of Texas Austin, Ohio State, University of Oregon. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me to look into? Thank you in advance!
