Is it reasonable to assume that upenn camb has sent out all their interview invites by now?

What track did you apply to? It seems a lot of the invites were for Immunology or Genetics, but I haven't heard of anyone else getting a letter for any of the other tracks, so I'm not sure if they are done or not

I'm in lab, but I'm too anxious to do anything ? When I'm at home, I just throw all of my energy into Skyrim, working out, and listening to podcasts. The stress is too real.

Oh true, I should probably use this extra energy to work out and work off the food I've been stress eating. I keep telling myself I deserve the snacks, but honestly... have I really deserved them

what I recived that email  on Nov 20th and still haven't heard anything. I am jealous

I'm in the same boat. I've actually received 2 emails of "you're application is still in review", the first was Nov 3rd an the second was Dec 4th. I applied to DDT though, so I'm assuming it's a rejection at this point.

If it's been 10 days since people have been getting acceptances and they haven't made a decision after sending two emails over two months... I think it's a no

Question, if I submitted my application before the priority deadline, but one of my recommendation letters didn't come in until a few days later (specifically UNC BBSP on the 23rd but recommendation arrived 25th), was my application technically not before the priority deadline? Just determining my stress level lol

Also nice to meet everyone and good luck ❤️ we got this!

I had this same question because one of my LORs seemed to take my submission date as a soft deadline. I talked to some admissions groups and they all told me that they wouldn't review until all the letters are in. But it might depend from program to program

What areas of interest did you indicate on your application for UTSW? I know  you could indicate up to three areas of interest and you're not directly admitted to a track, but just the umbrella program. However, I imagine that what areas you indicate do somewhat affect your application because they obviously don't need an entire cohort of cancer biologists, neuroscientists, etc.

I applied to the GDD program. I don't really remember if I chose a second or third choice though, and I can't seem to access my application atm.

    I applied to 10 programs:

Vanderbilt University, UT Southwestern, Baylor College of Medicine, Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, WashU St. Louis, UWash Seattle, URochester, UMass and UPenn.

So far, I've received an interview invite from Vandy. Im unsure if others have sent any out.

For background, Im an international student with a degree from a US institution, high GPA, 2yrs undergrad research experience. Applied last year and didnt get in, took a gap year and currently doing full-time research. No publications yet.

Anyone heard from any of these schools? Thanks

I applied to UT Southwestern around the end of October, but my last LOR wasn't submitted until Nov 12th, which to my understanding is only when they will look at your application. I got an interview offer from UT Southwestern right before the Thanksgiving break, but it might depend on tracks?

I'm also waiting to hear back from Baylor. I've gotten three emails saying my application is still under review. I don't know if that's more nerve wracking that not hearing anything ?

I didn't apply to UNC but I've seen people talking about getting interviews. Again, could be a different track/department

If you don't mind, could you share some details about the interview from UTSW? I also apply for UTSW Basic biomed PhD but no progress after submitting a secondary application.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by details? Like details about the actual interview? Because mine isn't until mid/end of January. Or do you mean details about how I got the offer?

So I just looked at their website because I was curious and it does mention rolling admissions. I must’ve gotten the wrong information. But either way I haven’t heard of anyone hearing anything yet.

I was about to say the same thing LOL It apparently didn't really help me since I haven't heard back about an interview

I really thought this cycle there will be a lot of applicants especiallly in the biology field which made me very anxious.

It also seems to be the cases from some schools maybe from the information I got from other places. I am wondering if anyone have any data on this?

This is my third time applying as an international students and probably last time. I don't think I will apply again even if I didn't get in.  So this puts additional pressure on me. My profile isn't excellent but Its almost the best I can do now.

Would love to talk to some anxious future Dr.  in the same boat

I don't have much data, but I got an interview from UTSW before their application closed, and they mentioned that they had over 1,000 applicants.... so I'm going to assume that despite this forum being quiet, there were a lot more applicants this year

That was just Einstein admissions specifically! I know other programs definitely come back quicker depending on when you submit your application.

I'm still finding it so strange that they told you that. Einstein mentioning that they have rolling admission and why it was helpful was a large part of why I started looking into it at other universities and submitted my applications when I did. So weird we got different advice.

  11. Just now, Annalisa1 said:

I was also hoping that applying early would mean a quicker turnaround, but when I spoke to admissions they said that they said that applying earlier didn't make a difference for when we would hear back :(

That's weird that you heard that. Especially because I got interview offers from two schools before they even closed their applications.... Was that just Einstein's admissions that told you that? Or was it somewhere else?

  12. I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but if you get an offer, do most schools expect a decision around the same time? I'm mainly curious because I'd like to visit the areas of where I'm accepted before making a decision since I won't have that option when interviewing. But I'd need time to visit those places, and if universities take time offering a spot while others expect a decision before that happens, that could ruin my plans ?

I also applied to Einstein. Their application closed today so I don't think we will hear from them for a while!

Darn. I applied early November to make priority, so I was hoping to hear back about an interview before the apps closed.

I applied to UTSW as well! I'm hoping for the Neuroscience or Genetics, Development, and Disease tracks. I've been seeing people get offered secondary apps, do you know if those are for international students only?

Others are Baylor College of Medicine (Development, Disease Models, and Therapeutics), UMass Medical (Umbrella program), UT Health MD Anderson (Neuroscience), Tufts (Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Bio), Johns Hopkins (Pathobiology), Texas A&M (Neuroscience, got unofficially accepted!), and Dartmouth (Molecular and Cell Bio)

@neurokenzie I'm not an international applicant. I got an interview offer from UTSW right before Thanksgiving break.

  15. Totally forgot I was on this thread so I'm a little late LOL. I got an interview offer from UT Southwestern before Thanksgiving break and an offer from MUSC yesterday. Has anyone heard from Thomas Jefferson University, Penn State, Baylor, or Albert Einstein?

This is interesting. Thanks for sharing. I'm curious about the "if you're not admitted then you have the option to apply to the masters." Do you mean the next year around? Or will you be recontacted if you are not accepted to a PhD program and offered the option to apply to the masters?

I had been wondering about this previously and asked a couple of departments if applicants not accepted to the PhD would be considered for masters admissions, I was told that it is not a guarantee unless you indicate to the department in advance that you would like to be considered for the masters program.

    Thanks for the insight!

I didn't ask for clarification, but I'm assuming the latter; that if you get a letter of rejection it will ask if you are interested in applying to the master's program. I'd also check your applications carefully. Some might ask if you wish to be considered for the master's program if you aren't accepted to the Ph.D., which would prompt the offer if you are rejected. I definitely have seen on applications they ask if you don't accepted to your first choice department, if you'd like to be considered for other areas if they think you are suited for them.

Does anyone know how it looks to an admissions committee if you apply to a program's Ph.D. and Masters program at the same time? Given the limited resources as a result of the pandemic, I was thinking of applying to a few masters programs as a backup to my Ph.D applications, but I don't want it to raise red flags with an admissions committee.

So I just got off of an open house event, and some one asked a similar question, and the admissions board said don't do that. You should focus on applying to the Ph.D., and if you're not admitted then you have the option to apply to the masters.
