I was invited to interview at my dream school and was told by my POI that I was a perfect fit and he would accept me, but he wasn't accepting a student this year ?? I accepted an offer at another school but it kills me inside that I was so close to my perfect program.

Thank for the reply! I should have been more specific, it is a funded PsyD so student loan debt is not an issue. I already have two first author publications and many conference posters/ oral talks. The lab is non traditional because it's not directly affiliated with a school and the RAs are nonstudents.

Hello all, I hope you are staying healthy during these uncertain times. This application cycle I applied to 15 clinical psych doctoral program, one PsyD and the rest PhD. I was accepted into the PsyD and waitlisted for a PhD. I have a feeling the PsyD is going to be my only option and it's a good school that has research opportunities (dissertation requirements, a lab with my interest). My hesitency is that after I graduate I want to to apply for post doc research fellows and I'm worried I won't be as competitive with a PsyD versus PhD. Does anyone have any experience with this or advice? My ultimate goal is to work in a clinical setting but also have a nontraditional lab (so research is in the plan, but so is clinical work).

I interviewed at ETSU a few years back and didn't get a response until June. They were not very good with communication. I ended up emailing the secretary to find out I was rejected.

They just lost a faculty member due to brain cancer and are having a memorial this week. I think that's what the delay is due to.

Thank you for this. ETSU was my top choice just because I love the faculty and their mission, but I know I would be a good fit elsewhere. It is crazy how much psychologists and other mental health professionals are needed and yet theres not enough room for all of us to get through school.

So this is kind of my second round. Last year I just applied to ETSU and by some miracle I got an interview, but I ultimately was not accepted. This year I came back and applied to 8 schools, with a false sense of confidence from my interview last year. I know it's still really early and most of my schools have not given out interview requests, but I'm a mess. Last night I saw that ETSU gave out interview requests and I was not one of those people, so my heart is completely broken and I don't even know how to cope.
