  1. Thank you so much!!
  2. I had an interview last Wednesday and heard from my POI of acceptance yesterday, so 6 days. I did have an informal interview with another program back in October and I still haven't from it. It looks like it varies tremendously.
  3. I emailed my POI from the interview I had last week at UN-Lincoln. She responded and apologized for the delay and cited the polar vortex-- but she said I am IN!! This is my first acceptance and I am over the moon!
  4. School: University of Nebraska at Lincoln Concentration: Developmental & Learning Sciences Type: PhD Date of acceptance: February 5th, 2019! Notified by: Email by my POI ❤️
  5. Yeah, I'm definitely thankful for that. I emailed each of my POIs before I submitted my applications, and I inevitably did apps for the programs that I corresponded with. One of them interviewed me back in October over Skype, and then set me up for a Skype conversation with one of her grad students. That school hasn't finished reviewing apps yet, so I'm still hopeful. I also interviewed with my #2 choice over Skype about a week and a half ago, but haven't heard back yet. Ugh.
  6. Right. Like.. I know I'm moving, but where? North Carolina? Texas? Nebraska? Southern California? Maryland? I applied all over the country. Perhaps that was a bad plan! Lol
  7. Generally, from what I understand, the professors are looking for the best fit for their lab in terms of interest. Your interests should closely align with the professors whose lab you're requesting to join. I think whether you bring additional interests to the table is subjective to the POI. In an interview I had last week, my POI asked me what kind of mentor I wanted-- I was honest and said I wanted someone who would teach me the skills I need to be a professional in my field, someone who has interests very close to mine, and would allow me to not only work on their research, but also encourage me to take on my own research as well. She liked the answer, and said she wasn't interested in just creating a bunch of mini-mes with the exact same research interests. I think it is totally up to the professor though.
  8. I also applied to UT-Austin and haven't heard anything either. Hopefully, this just means we aren't rejected and they haven't extended all invites yet!
  9. Omg. I connect to this too. I have generalized anxiety, and I'm very Type A. I need a plan, and the worst part of this whole thing is that I literally can't plan past when I graduate in May. I have no idea where in the country I am going to be living in 6 months.
  10. @historygeek -- literally the best ever. Hahaha!
  11. How are you dealing with your stress? I am literally eating my weight in gummy candies, specifically star mix and peach rings. Lol. Maybe it isn't the best way to channel my angst, but hey-- it could be worse. What's your go-to?
  12. Has anyone heard from NC State yet (specifically Lifespan Development)?
  13. Preach. I'm in the same boat. I applied to 9 schools and l haven't had any decisions-- even rejections-- from any of them. I've had two interviews, and haven't heard from them either. Ugh. I think I'd feel better if I just knew from one or two of the schools. The black hole of not knowing is rough.
  14. I have two friends who did clinical right out of their undergrad. One is an average/above average student who has decent research experience and went into Alliant's PsyD program. Another friend is absolutely brilliant with a 4.0 undergrad GPA, 165/165/5 GRE, lots of research experience in a neuro rat lab, & had a stats minor went into UN-Reno's clinical program.
  15. I am also an older, returning student and this is a significant career change. I think looking at varied background and work experience as a strength is huge and very important. We aren't young kids, we've been around and have worked with a diverse group of people under many different conditions. I think it is a huge asset and should be celebrated. I love your confidence and viewpoint!
  16. I asked my undergrad mentor when I should start freaking out that I hadn't heard from my top program (who I had a Skype conversation with in October, and another with her grad student the following week). She just told me "not yet". Haha. Easier said than done!
  17. What's making me more anxious is the fact that I haven't even gotten rejected from anywhere yet. I'm just sitting over here in silence. I talked with all of my POIs prior to applying to the programs, had 2 Skype calls with my top choice back in October, and an interview with my 2nd choice last week. I wish I could get anything-- even a rejection would be better than the waiting in silence.
  18. Man, this is a great thread. I applied to 9 schools (7 PhD and 2 MA in developmental/human development/social), and I've only heard back from one. I had a really good Skype interview with my #2 choice last week, and she said the committee was meeting tomorrow, and decisions would be made soon after that. I had an amazing Skype talk with my #1 school back in October. We have great overlapping interests, and her research is exactly what I want to do. She connected me with one of her grad students, whom I also spoke to on Skype, then told me to email her when my application was in, which I did in November. Silence since then. ? Stressed. Ugh.
  19. Lurker from the Developmental thread. I applied to NCSU and haven't heard anything either, after a promising Skype talk with my potential POI in October. I hope they just haven't sent invites yet.
  20. I just found this forum. I applied to 9 programs for a mixture of PhD and MA programs in developmental psychology. I've only heard back from one so far. The waiting game is zero fun.
  21. I applied to 9 schools for a mix of PhD and MA programs in psychology, and I've only heard back (and interviewed) from one so far. The waiting game is not fun.
