  1. Hey guys, so im starting at the GSPIA at uOttawa next year- does anyone know about the process of doing a PhD afterwards or if anyone has? thanks for any help
  2. Yeah they do! As soon as I got the offer I accepted it. I also applied to Carleton MPPA, my application just got changed to 'Review in progress by Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs'. But I wanted the GSPIA program more because of the mandatory MRP (MRP is optional and not guaranteed by Carleton), the options for different collaborative masters and co op and international opportunities! Im super excited
  3. I know someone in the program currently- you can definitely get by in the program not knowing French. Also there are many different electives to choose from, and you can choose an easier more English dominant course as your French elective where all the assignments etc are graded and completed in English. uOttawa also has free French classes which are apparently very good, so it’s also a good oppurtunity to improve the national second language!
  4. I did not get an e-mail about my acceptance either- I just randomly checked my application and saw I was accepted. I do not know/ think they will send out e-mails... I guess they will only send out emails after you accept the offer?
  5. Sure! I applied with a 3.85GPA, no prior experience in policy or public affairs ( I did take economics courses and a health policy course) or academic research experience but I have extensive experience in the healthcare realm (I am a HCP) and I think I had very strong academic reference letters from my upper year academic courses. So here is for those applying with work experience unrelated to public policy or public affairs, there is definitely a good chance youll still get in!
  6. Hey guys! I heard back from GSPIA today!! I got accepted with a scholarship of 6000 a year, or 12000 over the two years. Good luck to everyone still waiting!
  7. GSPIA or Carleton? I applied to GSPIA because I felt like it was a bit more theoretical with the mandatory MRP component and they have great health policy hubs there. I’m just looking out for people like me who are interesting in health policy!!
  8. Hi guys, I also applied to Carleton MPPA and uOttawa GSPIA and was also wondering about PhD opportunities after grad school? I was leaning more towards GSPIA because they have a mandatory MRP
  9. Hey guys, So I applied to the GSPIA program at uOttawa and MPPA program at Carleton. My focus is on health policy. I come from a health care provider background with two undergraduate degrees, graduating my second degree with around a 3.85GPA. I have some pretty strong references and definitely unique background, but no actual experience working in policy or PIA. The Carleton program does give the opportunity to work for health care federal offices, as does the GSPIA and also GSPIA has Patrick Fafard who I spoke to and can hopefully if I am lucky to be admitted will supervise my MRP. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any insight on the likelihood of my chances and also any info on either of these programs, pros and cons etc. that would be much appreciated! and obviously good luck to everyone else applying this year!
