  1. Hey guys, wondering if anyone else is applying to PhD programs for fall 2021. Starting this thread to deal with the next month or two. I applied to Harvard's Committee on the Study of Religion PhD, Islamic Studies track and have an MA from Columbia in Islamic Studies.
  2. I will be at Columbia for a masters in MESAAS this fall! Has anyone decided what they will do for housing?
  3. Incoming Columbia MESAAS masters student in the fall. Where my lions at?!

  5. Thank you! I have decided to go with NYU's masters between the two choices of Oxford and NYU. I am waiting to hear back from Columbia MESAAS. Between Columbia and NYU, which would you say is a stronger school for Middle Eastern Studies? I know Columbia is the home of eminent academics like Edward Said... but NYU is also amazing.
  6. Hi, I just came across this post and I know it's been three years, but I'm wondering if you ended up going with Oxford. I'm in the exact same situation--American student, intending to do a PhD in the longrun. Oxford, SOAS, and NYU--Masters in Middle Eastern Studies. Was wondering if you could give some advice, thank you so much!
  7. Ive secured an internship at the United Nations in NYC but the dates overlap with the fall semester. NYU has said they'll give me course credit for the internship, whereas Oxford says apply next year with no guarantee of admissions. What is a better program in the long run? I'm interested in applying for PhD's in America after I've completed the masters. Is oxford as prominent for US PhD's? Thanks!

  9. Hi all, I really need some advice. I have secured an internship at the United Nations Women at the UN headquarters in New York city for 6 months. The issue is that my internship dates are September to December, which obviously overlaps with when programs start (September), which means that I will have to defer my admission. I'm waiting to hear back from Oxford for an MPhil in Modern Middle East Studies. I want to get the most of my UN internship because these opportunities are hard to get. But i really don't want to risk Oxford making me reapply, especially if I get in. Please provide your feedback and any suggestions you have! Thank you so much
  10. Hi everyone! Just saw this. I applied to Oxford for an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies, SOAS for an MA in Gender Studies with a MENA concentration, and NYU for a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies. Feeling pretty confident about them all, honestly. I've yet to hear from anyone but I keep stalking each application page. Ideally, I wanted to apply to PhD programs only in USA but the GRE scores weren't good enough. NYU doesn't require a GRE, so I went with that, and UK doesn't require GRE scores period. 3.6/4.00 GPA, and an upcoming internship with the UN in NYC.
