If you live in Toronto that's super convenient! I live in Hamilton and I don't know if I want to deal with commuting constantly. However, it will most likely be moved online for the fall. I also am not a huge fan with Ryerson's courses because it's heavily critical, which is good but I feel like I need more clinical learning now. Really, my main pro for Ryerson is the funding. It's so hard to make a decision!

I feel like it boils down to where you want to get experience. I finished my BSW at York and I personally wouldn't want to do an MSW there, as it continues to focus on critical aspects and doesn't differ all too much from the bachelors course work. I finished my BSW wanting to get clinical experience so I applied to UofT. Also, York's practicum mainly deals with non-profits if that is something that interests you. I'm not all that familiar with Ryerson, but perhaps looking into where they specialize would help you come to a decision based on what sort of work you want to apply yourself in.

Hi folks! I made a facebook group "UBC MSW Class of 2021" for those who are starting the advanced MSW at UBC this September (2020). Please feel free to request to join if that is you!

Hi all! I just received an e-mail from Angela at U of T for an offer of admission off of the waitlist! I had been waitlisted early March. This is for the Advanced Standing 1 year program, in the Mental Health and Health Stream!

As far as I know, York's funding blows Ryerson out of the water. I was offered $8k from Ryerson and $18k from York. Think Ryerson's initial funding can fluctuate based on GPA and whatnot, and they said there is sometimes more funding available down the road, but it's not always guaranteed.

I got accepted to the york advance standing MSW! My status changed in MyFile but I can't seem to find the offer letter. If anyone else was accepted to York, do you know how to access the letter?

Advanced Standing. Just checked in with some pals who also applied to the Advanced Standing and they're still waiting to hear back, so hopefully that's a sign that offers are still rolling out! Not sure if 2-Year folks would be hearing back around this time or not.

Guys!!!!!  I made an account to let y'all know I literally just got off the phone with Ryerson! Jen Poole called me and told me I got in, and that I got a $1000 entrance scholarship! I'm over the moon. I also got my acceptance from U of T earlier today.

Side note: I think Ryerson's admissions committee must have a lot of fun calling people to tell them the good news about acceptances. I kept stuttering "oh - oh my god...thank you oh my god....wow thank you..." and she was holding back laughter the whole time haha. Good cheer spreads!
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back! I'm rooting for you all.

Big congrats! I was scrolling through last year's forum and recall your name and how you were patient with the whole process. Glad for the good news for you!

Got my first acceptance email today! U of C Leadership in the Social Services specialization.

Applied with 8000+ hours work experience in acute care, assertive community treatment, and a specialized outreach team in DTES. Plus about 2000 hours volunteer/practicum experience. GPA about 85% during my BSW (I had a prior degree in political science and it was not great there - high 70s). Also have been involved in one minor research project/presentation post-degree and did a self directed study/research project during my BSW which I definitely played up.

    So excited!!

YUPPPP! I still can't get over how their application asks for -substantially more- work than any of the other schools I'm applying to. Best of luck over the next 24 hours!

Congratulations on getting off the waitlist for York and for getting a promotion at work!
I am a current BSW student at York and I will be doing the Full-Time Advanced Standing MSW at York in September
York's MSW is a very progressive program which focuses on Critical Social Work, social justice, advocacy, and research. York focuses on challenging macro societal issues and systems of oppression. A lot of critical thinking and self-reflection is used throughout their Social Work programs, however, like you mentioned, Clinical Social Work practice is not a main focus in the program. You could get some exposure to Clinical Social Work practice by taking York's MSW electives. This year they are offering electives in Mindfulness and Just Relations in Social Work and Narrative Therapy and Critical Social Work. In the summer they have an elective called Group Facilitation and Social Justice which is somewhat more practical than some of the other electives. They also have a wide variety of other electives to choose from throughout the entire year, but they fill up quickly.
At York we will have to do a 50 page practice based research paper that takes a year to complete. There are two classes throughout the year which help us throughout the research process and they are graded as a pass or fail.  There also is a large emphasis on Marxism and Foucault in the MSW. In my opinion, it seems like York's MSW program will offer students new learning and would prepare us to be progressive Social Workers.
All full-time MSW students receive a fellowship that's worth $10,000! Financially, York is an excellent choice as no other school provides this amount of funding to their MSW students.
As for placement, York does have some hospital and school board connections, however, there wouldn't be as many clinical options like U of T. From what I've heard, York does have a good variety of placements predominantly in the Toronto, Vaughan, and Scarbrough area. This of course varies each year. We have to do a generic cover letter and resume in addition to filling out an online application with our population and social work practice interests. York matches us with a placement and then they arrange for students to go for interviews.
There always is the option to do a certificate in a specific type of counselling after the MSW.
At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter to employers where you did your MSW, so it's really up to you if you want to do the MSW at York.
    Hope this helps!
