  1. I sent you a DM. Hope the info is helpful! It would be great to have you in the fall cohort if you choose york!
  2. I am also contemplating ryerson vs york and got an OGS offer from ryerson. York was always my first option because I feel like it would be a better program for me. They have practicum placements with agencies I want to work at. I have also recently read some bad practices about ryersons social work program. And with ryersons recent termination with the student union, it is unclear if students with even get an insurance plan and other protections/resources. But i also will probably choose york because I want to be able to work part-time and the OGS requires that you do not work more than 10hrs a week. Also I will still get more financial support from york in than ryerson (because they withdraw scholarship funding if you receive OGS). Ultimately, both packages are great. So I think it comes down to what you want to get out of the program.
  3. I looked at : 1. funding 2. practicum placements (I.e. does the school have relationships with community organizations that I want experience in). 3. The focus of the school (e.g. clinical, critical, etc). Does this fit with what I want to learn/how I want to practice. 4. Research component (I specifically wanted a program that included a research component, but maybe you want a program with no research project). 5. Courses and if they fit with my interests/what i want to learn. 6. Previous students' experience with that program. 7. If the school walks the talk of what they teach. Are they touting anti-oppressive frameworks while reinforcing oppressive systems? Of course all universities are inherently oppressive because they are part of post secondary institutions, so this is relative.
  4. Dont give up hope! I am similar to you in that I mostly have a research background with minimal front-line experience and I got accepted to york. It sounds like you are extremely qualified! Best of luck
  5. Anyone have insight in whether the 2020 MSW year will continue given the COVID-19 crisis is expected to last for months or even years? I know BSW programs are already indefinitely suspending practicums.
  6. This Thank you for letting me know! This is really helpful
  7. I got accepted to the york advance standing MSW! My status changed in MyFile but I can't seem to find the offer letter. If anyone else was accepted to York, do you know how to access the letter?
  8. I am not sure. Back in 2016 I had only applied to UofT and they sent me a letter when I was wait listed but they never sent any rejection letters.
  9. Thank you for the info! I'm hoping to find out before I have to respond to Ryerson.
  10. I just got accepted to the Ryerson MSW program. I am currently out of the country so I didn't receive the phone call, but i got an email. The official offer shows up on RAMSS 24hrs after you receive the email. Still waiting to hear back from York though . . .
  11. Yes, i completed my degree 4 years ago. Does the university you are currently in have a BSW program? It might be easier to just switch your degree at your current university than to apply to an accelerated program at another school. I know its discouraging to not get into the program you want. But keep trying! If this is what you want to do you will find your way there.
  12. I'm sorry that you didn't get in My marks aren't remarkable, I have a B+ average. I have 1 year experience working at a drop-in centre for women/non-binary folk living with mental health and addictions. 2 years working in mental health research and 1 year working in research ethics. I worked for a year on a animation project with people experiencing homelessness. I also worked a summer with children and youth with disAbilities. I have over 4 years of volunteer/practicum experience working at a drop-in centre for people experiencing homelessness and under-housing, a mental health call-in centre for children/youth, centre for youth experiencing early signs of psychosis and their families, did art/music programs at a high school with the developmental disabilities department, and did programming at a retirement home. I also worked really hard on my statement and was open about my personal experiences/struggles. It might be helpful to contact admissions and ask about where you need improvement. I know some universities will give you feedback and tell you where you can improve. Others (e.g. UofT) will not.
  13. I just got my acceptance letter from Dal for the distance BSW part-time.
