  1. By this do you mean the Grad Cafe? The thing is I have no idea how many people admitted to the program frequent this forum, and it's pretty different from other MPAs (including more competitive ones like WWS or even the MPA from HKS itself) so I don't think that people who know about other MPAs can really gauge my competitiveness that well either.. Like, the minimum requirements are 1 semester of microeconomics, 1 semester of macroeconomics, and calc 1-3. My math goes a little beyond that (1 class covering linear algebra and real analysis) and my econ is exactly at the minimum, so I'd think I'm fine but then I look at the curriculum and it basically starts with PhD level economics courses. So will my app go straight into the garbage bin because I don't have intermediate micro and macro and they don't think I'll be able to cope with the advanced courses, even though I fulfill the minimum requirements? Or can my above average GRE (169V, 168Q, 5.0AW) help me stand out? I'm fairly confident about my work experience being what they want to see. What concerns me is that the PhD level coursework will make them not take me seriously (even though that's exactly the reason why this is the only MPA I'm looking at).
  2. Hey guys. Was anyone here admitted to the MPA/ID? If so, would you mind sharing your profile with me through a PM? I'm considering applying for next year.
  3. Essentially what the title says. I can't, for the life of me, figure out whether I'm competitive or not for the MPA/ID at Harvard Kennedy school. I fulfill all their requirements, and even excel at some of them, like the GRE, but I have no idea if my profile fits what they're looking for. Is there a service I can pay for that can give me an honest assessment of my profile and tell me whether I have a chance or not? This is one of the two programs I'm interested in the US and I would really like to know if I'm a good fit before I spend the time writing the three essays they require and the money for their application fee.
  4. I graduated 3 years ago with a BA in IR from a top school in that field (3.55 GPA). I've taken Calc 1-3, Stats, and Linear Algebra. However I only took Intro to Micro, Intro to Macro, and Int'l Economics (which I don't think really means much to admissions). Do I have a chance to get into decent/good masters programs? I'm looking at: PSE PPD, Boconni ESS, UCL MSc, BGSE economics and finance, IHEID MA in Int'l Economics, Duke MA, BU MA, SAIS MIEF,. People always tell me to apply to LSE but I don't make the GPA cutoff so I don't think I'll bother. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I have no idea if I'm just wasting my money applying to all of these without an econ undergrad degree.
  5. At first I thought it would make it softer, given the economic shock that this pandemic is causing. But now I'm realizing that all of admitted students for 2020 will probably want to defer their admission until 2021, raising competition substantially. Thoughts?
  6. Hello, Does anyone here have any info on admissions statistics for SAIS's MIEF program? Or if you're an admitted student, can you tell me a little about your profile? GRE scores, GPA, econ background, etc... An admissions coordinator for the program told me it's gotten a lot more competitive recently, so now I'm getting a bit nervous about my chances...
  7. Which classes did you take? I'm having a hard time finding online courses that I need (Calc II, Calc III, Econometrics). Berkeley has Calc II, but neither Berkeley nor UCLA have econometrics or Calc III
  8. It's a masters and I graduated a couple of years ago. ?That's why I think I need to take them online. Doesn't sound like they make exceptions here: https://www.hks.harvard.edu/educational-programs/masters-programs/master-public-administration-international-development/what
  9. I think it's a bad idea if she discloses her personal connections. That would make the letter completely useless, and would probably turn off the application reviewer in the process.
  10. The program I'm looking at requires "Three university-level courses in calculus, which must include multivariable calculus. These courses must be taken for credit and a grade either in person or online at an accredited institution." I've only taken calc I, meaning I need two more calc classes, including multivariable calculus. Is there somewhere I can take these classes online? Do I have time to take these classes before the December deadline?
  11. As someone who's main goal is to work for the IADB/World Bank/IMF, this degree seems pretty ideal. It's a 1 year program in international economics and finance, based in DC, and classified as STEM (so us international students can use that 2 extra years of OPT). SAIS is also known as one of the top IR schools when it comes to teaching quantitative skills. The thing is I'm pretty skeptical of new programs, and I'm not sure if there's a stigma among employers regarding 1 year masters degrees. Also, looking at 2017's employment outcomes for SAIS grads (http://mediahost.sais-jhu.edu/~saismedia/media/web/site/flip/employment-outcomes-2017/12/index.html), MIEF employment outcomes seem to be slightly worse than those of other SAIS programs, particularly when it comes to median salaries and private sector employment. I think this could be explained by the program's small class size and highly international student body, but it's still a bit of a red flag. Does anyone here go to SAIS/has done some extensive research on this program? What are your thoughts?
