  1. I'm still on the wait list for the 1 year advanced standing program at U of T. I don't expect to hear anything and have been instead looking for full time work and making plans to re-apply for next year. It's pretty disheartening and frustrating, but what else can i do?
  2. They may not tell you at all. Like I’m not sure if you’ll ever get an official rejection after being waitlisted?
  3. I didn’t apply to York, so I don’t have any personal stake in this, but this system seems really dumb.
  4. Difficult to say! The two year MSW programs are more competitive than the one years from what I’ve heard. With your experience it would probably be more useful to just pursue the MSW right away.
  5. Ah perhaps! I’m unfamiliar with practice in the Maritimes. In BC or Ontario though, you need an MSW for clinical practice.
  6. I don’t know of many BSW programs that have a clinical focus. You need a masters in social work to do clinical work.
  7. Congrats!! I sincerely doubt I will get off the waitlist at this point. ?
  8. Do you know what stream your friend applied for at u of t? ive been told as the waitlist is not ranked, they select 'similar' applicants to those who declined.
  9. If anyone actually gets off the waitlist for the U of T advanced standing program, please post here.
  10. For U of T you can get off the waitlist anytime between May and until September. I don't believe there is any sort of cut-off date before then.
  11. Interesting. I was advised that perhaps a contributing factor to my waitlist status at u of t was because i was so personal with my personal statement (perhaps TOO personal). This was suggested by someone who used to be on the acceptance board for the MSW program at Kings. All I'm saying is it's really hard to know anything for sure.
  12. I applied for the 1 year advanced standing program at U of T. I currently live in Toronto and am pretty settled here, it would be difficult to move. I specifically want to practice clinical social work, and U of T is the only msw program in Toronto that offers that experience/learning. I had also been falsely confident that I had enough experience/High enough gpa to get accepted. Evidently I was wrong.
  13. It’s still pretty early. With only 13 people on the waitlist you have a pretty good chance I think! Unlike me. I only applied to U of T and was waitlisted. Pretty much doomed hahah ??‍♀️??
  14. Not sure about Laurier, but I don’t think the U of T waitlist will move til May at the earliest. I think as spots become available they re-assess the applicants on the waitlist (as its apparently not ranked) so that would take some time.
  15. I don’t think York has sent out acceptances yet.
  16. I only applied to one school and was waitlisted. I'm feeling pretty heart-broken. I had been posting in another thread directly related to the program I applied to but accepted applicants have made comments that i am being negative and disvaluing peoples' hard work -) i had made some comments that i have seen really stellar applicants get rejected and some applicants who may not 'wow' on paper get accepted. Now I don't know where to turn. I certainly wasnt attacking anyone's hard work - and that being said, I really dont believe that accepted applicants just 'worked harder' and that's why they were accepted. The process involves so much more than that. Anyway I just needed a somewhat safe outlet to vent to people who may currently understand how I am feeling. I am feeling distraught, rejected, and am filled with self-doubt.
  17. I certainly didn't mean to downplay anyone's accomplishments, and I'm sorry that you interpreted my comments that way. I also wasn't referring to 'wow-ing' on paper as the personal statements - as obviously I have not read everyone's statements. What I meant was that some individuals get in who may not have the highest GPA / highest amount of hours of experience. Obviously they have displayed something else that certain schools feel is fantastic/ beneficial / relevant to their program. I was not discrediting anyone's accomplishments. I was not minimizing anyone's efforts or dis valuing celebration of hard work. ALL I meant was that comparing yourself to others on here will not help anyone 'guess' or determine what their admission status will be. I found your comment to be somewhat personally attacking of my character - however I'm not assuming that that was your intention. I am guessing you felt somewhat defensive of your acceptance.
  18. You know, I'm not sure if this thread is the best for emotional well-being. Well, my own emotional well being anyway. One can recite their own stats and read others but still wont have any idea if they will get accepted or not. I've seen some extremely qualified candidates get waitlisted and some candidates who may not 'WOW' on paper get acceptance. I've given up trying to have any notion of what admissions want.
  19. So I think when someone refuses an offer at U of T, the admissions comittee re examines the the applicants on the wait list and selects a similar candidate (similar gpa/experience i guess and same stream choice). This is why they don’t rank the waitlist. Also why it is extremely difficult to get in off the waitlist and impossible to predict.
  20. Kind of what I figured. I have absolutely no hope of getting off of the waitlist. I just wish they would offer some guidance as to which aspects of the application wasn’t good enough.
  21. Anyone in your program actually get accepted off of the waitlist last year?
  22. I emailed Angela requesting feedback on my application (what areas needed improvement etc) and got a copy and paste response email to frequently asked questions. Unfortunately they will not provide feedback. Kinda shitty considering it cost $200 to apply...
  23. Those of you who have applied to the same school more than once - did you use the same references both times? Just thinking ahead for next year
