  1. Everyone's work sounds amazing! I have background in postcolonial studies & global feminism. I started out interested in Maghrebi women's writing and I've turned instead to African diaspora studies in France & the Caribbean. Right now I'm doing reading on literary responses to (or representations of) the transatlantic slave trade. I'm also interested in the history of racial construction & difference throughout French literature, especially 18th and 19th c. And yes, such a relief that app and interview season is (almost) over!
  2. Thanks @Coleslaw! Great idea, @xinyu_uynix! Decision making is a little harder than I expected. I came in with a certain ranking of schools/programs, but the more I've heard back from schools, the more I've been reconsidering what I prioritize in a program. I was accepted to UCLA and UC Berkeley for the French programs. I am also waitlisted at Columbia for French with a certificate in Comp Lit. I'm still torn and waiting for a few more visits/news ... stay local (Berkeley) or spread my wings (LA or NYC)??? I got rejected with no interview from Yale, and I haven't heard back from Harvard or Princeton. Congrats to those who got in – they're great programs!
  3. As we wait / contemplate ... what's everyone interested in? Any Francophonie folks here?
  4. I meant not yet for any Berkeley news at all – admission decisions, campus visits, etc. I realize I'm not being clear, my apologies. Skype interviews are apparently a fairly new development in French grad admissions committees (according to my advisors) – I'm not sure what the general protocol is at all! But it seems like a good way to do the interview process.
  5. Not yet! Sorry for the confusion. I had just called the admin assistant to ask her something about my application materials right before I submitted. Congratulations! Same here!
  6. Not yet for Berkeley, but I think I was told via phone that the decision would come out in late Jan or early Feb. So... they have a few more days ? Félicitations to everyone so far!
  7. Hi all, I hope your summer has been relaxing! I have a question about the quant section. I am applying to comparative lit & French PhD programs this application cycle. I have a pretty good verbal score (163-166) and fairly good writing scores (5-5.5 from Kaplan grading teams). My quant varies between 145-155. How much should I focus on boosting my quant? I am taking another practice test tomorrow and I take the real test in late August. My professors and advisors have told me that the GRE is not a huge priority for most admission teams these days - but of course they're still required, so you want to do well. I've also been told that the quant score is pretty irrelevant for people planning to go into language pedagogy & literary studies. After trying to get my verbal as high as possible, I'm now shifting to focus on my WS and SoP. At the same time, I would hate to be rejected from a program simply because I didn't take the time to work on a quant score. I'd love to hear people's thoughts so I can know where to focus for the next month. Thanks and good luck to everyone!
