Are ASHA program stats reliable?
slp2be99 replied to 4ever's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
You have to keep in mind about the second one, MGH's actual website is saying that they want to aim for a class size of 60 students, but Edfind is saying that they accept 225 people. These are different things because no everyone accepts their offer, so class size is probably around 60 students for them. The first one, I'm not sure, so as the person above said I wouldn't take either of them has a strict guideline or anything. -
I don't think they are accepting anyone off the waitlist until after April 15, good luck though!

Anyone make a group for Elmhurst yet?

I got accepted there and they did a little online open house sort of thing where they just posted videos about the campus and some current students answered some FAQs. It is a beautiful campus and people have said that the faculty is extremely nice and helpful. You only go to class 2 times per week, but its for like 6 hours and then you have clients on the days you don't have class. There's a private clinic on campus, a preschool they work at and the convent with the nuns. Its a Catholic school, so if you're Catholic it will be perfect. The program is also 5 semesters, which is nice and you start clinic right away. I believe you get to pick your externships. The only downsides are that its in South Bend and idk if you're from Indiana or are familiar with South Bend, but it is not the nicest area, although where the campus is located it is a nice area, just other parts of South Bend are not. The other downside is that it is extremely expensive. Let me know if you have any other questions and I can try and help!

Yeah, you're right. I filled out that I wanted to do a Skype meeting and wanted to stay on the list. I'm just baffled that they haven't said anything about it... I ended up emailing them and asking if they are still planning on doing these meetings and the timeline for the waitlist to come out. Hoping they respond soon.

I'm wondering the same thing... I requested to set up a Skype interview instead of going to their open house on their survey thing, but I haven't heard anything back... I'm wondering if that last open house on March 13 actually got cancelled and they're now overwhelmed because a lot of people couldn't come then.

Elmhurst? Anyone have any insight?

Ah okay thank you! I guess I won't have as many days off as I thought because clinic will probably be then, oh well. I'm just really sad I can't go visit it yet and maybe won't get to. Their virtual tour does not help much. -

Thank you! I'm glad that they don't have many clients, I don't want to feel overwhelmed! Do you know if we see our clients during the class "clinical practicum" or is that an actual class to learn about clinic? Sounds like a stupid question, but some colleges have it as learning and not for actual clients. If that's when it actually is that sounds nice because I have a couple of days off which I was looking for. I agree with the professors, each college is going to have the ones that aren't so helpful, but every person has a different experience. If you don't mind me asking, I see that you took Elmhurst off your list, why was that? -
I really interested in Elmhurst, but I haven't had the chance to visit it yet. I know their program is pretty new and that it is a small campus. Any insight would be appreciated

Starting at a program that just opened??
slp2be99 replied to futurespeechpath1's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm sure that wouldn't be the case for a lot of colleges, especially one that is new since the school already knows how many professors they need. I doubt if they didn't have enough from the start they would still have a cohort for the fall. -

From what I heard as long as the school doesn't get in trouble they won't lose their candidacy status and that rarely happens. Just because the program is new doesn't mean its any less than somewhere else. Everyone has to start somewhere. I honestly do not think that employers would care if you're school is in candidacy or not because you will still get your C's just like everyone else. -
Okay so I was accepted into SIU-C and waitlisted at Indiana State, but I still want to know about Indiana State since they want me to go to an open house and I feel like I have a good chance of getting off the waitlist. There seems to be a stigma at my university about Indiana State and no one will really say why... I like it as an option because its close-ish to home and the tuition is not bad. Basically for both SIU-C and Indiana State I would like to know: What are the pros and cons of each program? What is a typical schedule like? How many classes per day? Do we get clients right away?
