Thanks! I have no idea how to even go about emailing to ask schools for info like this. I’m grateful others do but I had no clue we could try to do that! -

I am really hoping to hear from CUNY and Michigan, and wondering if radio silence from UMD is a rejection because they notified earlier last year -

My expectations are so low but I’ve always been right at that overlap so it felt like I had to give it a shot! Really curious how many applications they got this year, I know they only take 2-3. Same here— I’ve only heard from 1/9. Wish this process were slightly less chaotic! -

I feel like this is going to be me. This year is my first PhD cycle, and I wonder if I’ll have the strength to keep going. Good luck to you ❤️❤️ -

Pretty similar! Same period, feminist & political/critical theory. Interested in activism narratives in both fiction and nonfiction. Not sure whether to feel like our group isn’t one being interviewed, or if there are a ton of us. Lol. -

Is he someone you named in your application or did he email you on behalf of the committee/dept? -

Also haven’t heard anything from UMD, no interview, no waitlist, no emails, etc. Out of curiosity, what subfield are you? -

Also rejected, though I wasn’t so invested in it. Here’s hoping we have better news coming soon! -

Fully expecting my northwestern rejection (and first response of the cycle) any minute now so don’t feel alone!!! -

Super helpful! Didn’t think about this varying from subfield to subfield. -

Saw some Columbia interview requests go up on the results page. Anyone know if no interview = rejection? I have zero expectations of being considered there (not even a great fit I don’t think) but I’m in NY so I shot my shot. -

Me! Already feeling like it's a rejection...no sense of how often acceptances go out in waves on different days, though. -
I applied to the joint English & Women's Studies! the rest of my programs are English/literature. Nothing yet, I was under the impression I wouldn't hear until March

is there an unofficial list anywhere of programs that typically give interviews? trying to figure out if I have something or nothing to worry about just yet -
Identifying POIs in SOP
jm6394 replied to The Hoosier Oxonian's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I've personally been told by several professors and admissions committee members at a top-20 program to list full or associate professors, but not assistant professors. I'm thinking in the SOP it would be okay, if you want to name some people beyond the primary 3, to show that there are more junior faculty in the dept to support you as well -
I personally wouldn't send the subject test score. If it isn't required, its absence will not be held against you. Sending a strong score makes sense, since maybe it would be used to give you an edge over an otherwise equal candidate, but sending a weaker score might put you at a disadvantage. Your GRE verbal is where it needs to be, so why roll the dice? Only send what you're confident makes you a stronger applicant. Good luck!
