  1. @madisonc7 Ugh I got that too and got nervous for a moment! @Zayah NYU and Columbia are definitely my top two. I'm a little torn (if I get in, of course!) because Columbia is so highly ranked but NYU is better suited towards clinical work.
  2. YASSS ZAYAH! Which program did you apply to?
  3. Those are my two top choices as well! I can't stand to leave New York. At the NYU info session, they said 95% of students receive some sort of financial aid (merit or need based). Hopefully I'll see you at school in the fall
  4. That's amazing! I just submitted my application last week. Are you going to accept? Did you receive any info about financial aid?
  5. Mine changed as well, last Thursday or Friday.
  6. I was thinking the same thing! I do think the timing is pretty arbitrary - just based on when their team reviewed them, not based on admissions decision. But who knows!
  7. Re: Columbia - the email I got after I applied said that I would hear by February 2020. Not sure if that means by the end of February or before the month starts, but because of that email, I'm dubious of them waiting until March to notify us if we applied by the priority deadline!
  8. @ZayahIt just changed to show my concentration and specialization at the top - I don't think it means anything, just maybe changing the format before they roll out decisions over the next month.
  9. Zayah! Have faith, you got this! I'll also update y'all. I noticed that their portal changed appearance but not status.
  10. Has anyone heard from Columbia yet? I'm so antsy!
  11. I went to NYU undergrad and living close to campus I paid around 1500. I live in Brooklyn now and pay 1300 for the largest room in a shared (pretty nice for the area) apartment. Living in NYC isn't as crazy as everyone says if you live in Queens, Brooklyn, or above 120th st. If you have questions about living in NYC feel free to message me!
  12. I also received it! It was specific to work in Brazil I think. Freaked out for a moment because I thought it meant I was accepted, but didn't see any changes in my application portal. Plus, it looks like the deadline is before acceptances are expected to come out, so I think it's unrelated to your admissions decisions.
  13. @Claire Elizabeth Hi! I'm applying now and considering both NYU and Hunter. I have a few friends who started their MSWs, and most advised toward NYU if you want to pursue a clinical career. My supervisor is an NYU student and said that Hunter was very macro. That being said, Hunter is probably much less expensive, and I've heard prestige/rankings matter less than experience when applying for jobs in social work. I don't there's any difference between the two if you plan to move out of state - NY has more rigorous requirements for licensure than other states, so I hear it's easier to transfer from NY to another state than the opposite.
  14. I second LisaOh's comment. I can only speak to NYC schools, but I've heard NYU is more clinically focused than Columbia, and much more than Hunter College. You could probably get information about what kind of placements are most common at schools you're interested in, or ask for stats on where most people end up working after graduation, to see if it's more counseling/clinical or policy.
  15. @Nai23 That all sounds so amazing - I actually worked in menstrual health and menstrual equity for a lot of my undergrad! Luckily, they also said there's no GPA cuttoff at the information session I attended, and it seems like your experiences makes up for it. Fingers crossed for both of us!
  16. @Nai23 @The Finance Girl Thank you! I'm plugging along, but it's definitely hard to keep anything to the 500 word limit! Let's definitely keep in touch re- Columbia admissions. It's the first app I'm submitting so it's nice to speak with someone else going through it I also attended an info session and they said they have about a 70% admissions rate, so fingers crossed! I'm not sure exactly when we're supposed to hear back, but February feels like a good bet. That being said, I remember looking at CU admissions posts on this forum last year, and some people heard back really late and inconsistently, regardless of whether they were accepted. Nai23, what's your background? Also, what track are you applying to?
  17. I attended a Columbia and NYU info session and I believe they said there is no strict GPA cutoff. That being said, I imagine you want to make other portions of your application stand out.
  18. Thank you so much! The Columbia one is coming up and stressing me out! I graduated NYU last spring with a BA in psychology, where I did research in personality disorders and worked in a couples/relationship lab. I also taught sex-ed classes in low-income schools across the city. Now I work in social research, but want to practice clinically eventually!
  19. Thanks for making this thread, and congrats on being so on top of your applications! I'm applying NYU and Columbia, and then potentially Hunter and Fordham.
