Summer/Fall Semester affected by the COVID-19/Coronavirus situation
prokem replied to m_021's question in Questions and Answers
Speaking as a US citizen in one of the hotspot cities right now: I think that there is next to no chance admissions offers are rescinded to international students. At worst they will probably give you an extended deadline to decide whether to defer or not. BUT look at wuhan: things there are stabilizing and the number of daily new cases are decreasing. At worst this lasts for a few months in the US. Many public officials are saying if we can properly institute testing, social distancing, and other measures, the outbreak should be on the downswing by may. I do not think it is plausible that graduate school classes will be online in the fall due to the outbreak. If by some chance I'm wrong, I strongly believe that grad schools will be accommodating with deferments. But I see that as an incredibly unlikely scenario. -
Updating the Admissions Office on change in resume?
prokem replied to cos5683's question in Questions and Answers
I sent admissions offices some updates after I applied, but just for new awards/recognition and some new leadership stuff. Some were happy to hear it, others said congrats but we don't accept new info post-application. I would echo @PsyDuck90 though-- not sure how much it would really matter if you're applying for FA20 given that most programs are nearly done with assessing apps and you would only be at the new job for a few months anyways. But if you think it'll boost your application a decent amount, there's not really a huge drawback to telling them. -

Just so everyone is aware: SEAS cancelled admitted students day on the 20th but seems to be reimbursing travel nonetheless.- 272 replies

How long is reasonable to ask for decision deadline extension?
prokem posted a question in Questions and Answers
I've been admitted to a dual degree program (my 1b choice), and the decision deadline for the two programs are April 15th and April 20th. I was waitlisted at my 1a choice, and the email said no one will be accepted from the wait list before April 15th, and more likely later than that. I would like to see if I can get in since it's my top choice and I'd like to make as informed a decision as possible, but I also don't want to leave my 1b choice in the dust. I am going to ask if I could have an extension on their decision deadlines, but how long would be reasonable to ask for? I'd really appreciate any insights that anyone can offer! -

Yes, I was accepted into the MES through LPS program. I do love how interdisciplinary it is and the amount of freedom I'd have to take classes at Wharton and all the other schools. My only worry is that I've never seen an alum in my field and they haven't given me their employment stats. Anecdotally it seems like most grads go into waste or water and stay in the Philly area, none of which aligns with my preferences. But I did apply because they have a specific (and new) concentration that is right up my alley and is rare to see in similar grad programs. Thank you for your insights!- 272 replies

Congrats to both of you on your F&ES acceptances! I've been waitlisted, which is honestly better than I hoped for. Not sure what to expect now-- does anyone have any tips on possibly extending decision deadlines at other schools to accommodate F&ES? They said that offers won't be extended to people on the waitlist until April 15th, but that's also the decision deadline for SEAS.- 272 replies

Is that UPenn's MES? If so I'm curious to hear what you think of it. I was accepted back in December but I'm a bit apprehensive about the program- 272 replies

Just checked that email again-- it says decisions will be available beginning March 6th at 5 eastern, and that they'll email once your decision is out. Based off of the wording I'd assume that they'll do it in batches. Just my hunch!- 272 replies

Hey everyone! @alaqua had the idea of starting a group chat for SEAS. I know there's an admitted students Facebook group, but maybe we could use a group chat to discuss the program, get to know each other, etc. Anyone else interested?- 272 replies

I also didn't get a CPL interview (I applied for the Bacon Fellowship). I applied for another fellowship through the Belfer Center, which I think I may be notified about separately and at a later date. Does anyone else know about how that works? Congrats to those of you who got interviews! Remember your STAR method

Just got into SEAS with a non-renewable $15k scholarship! I've been stressed all day seeing other peoples' acceptances roll in, so this is a huge relief (and I'm super excited for SEAS). Is anyone planning on going to the admitted students day on March 20th?- 272 replies

I just finished it! I'll second what @HoyaX17 about randomization AND about having a pen and paper. It was definitely useful for writing out what I planned on saying. Beforehand, I also made little notes about experiences I thought could be relevant to the types of questions I anticipated they'd ask, just to refresh my own memory. I would recommend having an experience on hand that you could use the STAR method for just in case, as it could certainly be useful for one of the questions.- 272 replies

It's almost priority deadlines for Yale F&ES, Nicholas school, SEAS, and others. I saw there was a 2019 topic on env management and policy, so I thought I'd start one for this admissions cycle. Let's help each other out, commiserate (hopefully not), and (sustainably) celebrate together! For all applicants to MEMs, environmentally-focused MPPs/MPAs, etc

Congrats on submitting @justaname! I'm just putting the finishing touches on my app. Good luck!

Hi all, I'm a longtime lurker and grateful for all the advice and insights that this site has given me. I'm applying to 2 top MPP schools, neither of which superscore, and was wondering which GRE scores I should submit. I'll preface this by saying my GRE quant is one black mark on my app, although hopefully mitigated to some extent by great grades in relevant coursework and a LOR, and the other black mark is that I'm a current undergrad. Test 1: 90th percentile verbal, 41st percentile quant (yikes, I know), and 99th percentile AW Test 2: 86th percentile verbal, 45th percentile quant (yikes, still), and 98th percentile AW On one hand, the second test is much closer to 50th percentile for quant, which is a plus. On the other, it shows I haven't been able to make too many gains (would that indicate limited potential?) and my verbal dropped from pretty good to just good. I'm torn--which should I submit? Test 1, 2, or both? I would really appreciate any insights that anyone could offer. Thank you!

Hey @shrishti, thanks for starting this thread! I'm also applying to Ford, with the intention of doing a joint MS at SEAS. What're your stats/background? I'm a current senior at a top 40 LAS studying environmental analysis and public policy. High GPA, good GRE verbal and AW, but weak quant. I have a good amount of relevant experience (local government agency focused on climate change, climate policy think tank, env policy advocacy group) and some leadership experience too. I like to think my recs are strong and my essays are as well! My major weaknesses are semi-limited quant background/low quant GRE and the fact that I'm an undergrad. Hoping that admissions will look past that! I'm also applying to HKS (my reach), Yale FES (another reach), and UPenn. How about you?
