  1. I think I applied for chemical biology or biochemistry. I got the email from the director of graduate studies that I have been recommended to the GSAS for acceptance. The visit dates are Feb 13 - 15th and March 5 - 7th.
  2. To people who have gotten into UCLA, when did you all submit your application?
  3. Just got into UCSD. Also, I am currently in other country for break and I was wondering if the school tried to reach me via my US phone number, but could not because I am not in the US, will they email me?
  4. I think you should think carefully about what you would want to do in the future. If you are not a UC citizen nor permanent resident, then getting a job as a foreigner in the US is competitive and can be challenging, although it is not impossible. I am not trying to discourage or anything and I could be wrong, but I am not sure how much precedence you would have with a PhD degree from Illinois Tech in the job market when other people who have their degrees from more recognized institutions struggle from finding a job. However, obviously, this could be mitigated if you do very well in graduate school, like publishing many good papers, having a good connection, etc. Also, if you just want to go back to Asia after completing your degree in the US, I would guess that a PhD degree from the US could give you some priority than your peers with a PhD degree from your country. So those are the things I would consider and I would talk to the professors in your country for a reality check.
  5. For some schools I am applying to, they ask applicants to describe their research experiences on top of submitting resume/CV. In this case, how important is filling out the research experiences and how detailed should I be? I am also describing my projects a little more in detail in my SOP and I basically stated what I did and how I did in my resume, so I don't want to reiterate things.
