  1. UCLA is out today I think!
  2. Does the application status change generally? Like submitted>received>under review> decision etc it just shows submitted throughout till a decision is made?
  3. Wow thats wonderful! Getting an interview almost means getting selected. Fingers crossed for you
  4. The most important think would be how you shape your research questions sociologically in your SOP. The line of thought should be within the scope of the ontological domains of sociology as opposed to economics. It would also not be incorrect to tell you that some faculties have a sort of antipathy to economics especially in exploring concepts such as social life. Even if the programme appears as a good fit, I would think it would be wise to go through a couple of journal articles of the faculties you are interested in working with to map out their line of thought.
  5. I totally understand this. I have no way to confirm this but a senior student told me it's generally in the first half if you are offered an admission. Some colleges send out the acceptances first and then the generic rejection mails.
  6. A couple of weeks more!
  7. Also has anyone heard anything from University of Illinois? I heard it sends out decisions early as well.
  8. what about UCB? I didn't apply to UCLA, I spoke with a professor! He said the funding has decreased.
  9. Yep! Technical glitch. Mailed the university. Anyone expecting any decisions this week? Looks like Pol Sc has started sending out decisions already. Nothing for sociology yet.
  10. Ok this is weird. I suddenly don't see my application on UC Berkeley application management. Is this happening to someone else? I am freaking out!!!!
  11. Yep! Probably they'll start mailing around next week for interviews.
  12. true! Only a few Asian and German universities conduct interviews.
  13. University of Toronto also releases around that same time , last week of Jan.
  14. I guess! I don't think applications with Jan 15 deadlines will figure here. They'll probably take another 8 weeks for a decision. But the Dec 1 and Dec 15 deadlines might start sending decisions by the third week of Jan. At least a few of them.
  15. I was looking at previous years results. I am guessing it will start raining from Jan 17!
  16. Has anyone heard about interviews? I don't think they have sent out interview mails yet but I may be wrong. Uchicago should be the first to conduct its interviews I guess.
  17. Hi! I created this with a hope to get people talking if it helps and also to let me know that I am not the only one going through these emotions. If such a thread exists please ignore this and let me know of it so I can join you there. That being said, I managed a total of 17 applications this year and now I am freaking out. The worst part of this period for me is not being engaged in anything else. I left my job to just focus on these applications and have been without one for 5 months now. While the preparation was good and it hopefully gets me good results, I am in an ocean of uncertainty and anxiety! I want to find a job now but I feel it will only be an excuse to not think about this and therefore I will not be totally committed to the job and perform poorly. I can't even muster the strength to write another cover letter now. And this "blank space" is painful! I have no clue of the application now, who is reading it, have the decisions already been made, when will the acceptances come out, etc. Apart from the financial cost which has burned my pockets now, the psychological effect is overwhelming. I am not sure what I should do right now! Music, Meditation, have all failed in calming me down! Should I just stop looking at my mails and application status repeatedly and forget that I applied? I am falling short of answers and solutions to this phase. Let alone the fear of what those 17 decision will be !
  18. Me neither! It does not have any bearing on the admission application I suppose.
  19. I received an email from the COE at UChicago about the fellowship. Has anybody else received that ? I had heard it was discontinued.
  20. Hello! I am a sociology graduate but I have for the recent years worked a lot on social movements and populism. I am interested in pursuing a PhD in political science. I was wondering how does on ego about explaining this shift? What do faculties look at?
  21. Hi, New here! Does anyone have an idea about the time of interviews and emails of offer letters for PhD programs that have a November 1st Deadline?
  22. I hope they see the complete application!
  23. Exactly what I have been thinking. I am keeping my project purely qualitative as thats what I have trained and worked as so far. As an ethnographer.
  24. I also have similar scores Verbal 154, Quant 149, AWA 4. (My GPAs are decent 4- undergrads, 3.6 Masters, 4 2nd Masters) It would be of great help if I can get your opinion, as straightforward as possible, regarding my chances. I am applying to Vanderbilt, BU, Northeastern, Northwestern, University of Cincinnati, Yale, University of Illinois Chicago , University of Chicago, UCB, UNorth Carolina, UWisconsin-Maddison, Brown, UMichigan, McGill, Columbia, NYU, UToronto. I did initially think of laying out my full profile but I have heard in US applications if the GREs are not good enough then the applications are not even seen by the committee. I'll be happy to share my profile if you can make a better judgement out of it. Please be brutally honest. Many thanks in advance. And wishing everyone the best for this application cycle! Cheers!
