  1. They should not do that. Applicants worked hard and put a lot of effort and money on their application. Is there a way you can talk to them and explain your situation? can they defer you? and yeah, is that even legal?
  2. I would say Princeton as they are giving you funding for your studies. Also, Princeton is an excellent university, so you will have lots of networking opportunity.
  3. We will probably hear back Tu April 6 or Fri April 10.
  4. I am also probably turning down a top rank program due to its location. I know the program is #2 in biomedical sciences but I do not like the location at all. I love the program itself as it is unique and there is lots of support for the students to do well plus there are many opportunities to explore multiple careers. But, I will be pretty unhappy living in that city for 4-6 years. I think if you feel you will be unhappy in a specific location, you should put that into consideration when deciding where to go. At the end, if you are not happy you many not be as productive as you would want to be so it may affect your well-being and the way you perform in class and in lab.
  5. All of those university are excellent. I would say go to the one you like the most and the one that give you the most support economically and career wise. It looks like it would be between UPenn and UChicago. Hopefully you get accepted with funding at UChicago because it seems that that is your top university choice.
  6. Thanks. Yeah, I saw lots of very qualified applicants don't get it or get honorary mention only. Having my own fellowship would be nice. So much freedom if we get that money.
  7. Thank youuu. Yeah, I haven't received any email from them. Maybe thats good news, at least they are considering my app. I'm anxious for the results to come up, I just want to know
  8. Thanks for this information. Very helpful.
  9. Making a decision about which grad school to attend is so difficult and even more when revisits got cancelled and there is lots of uncertainty due to COVID19. I love to take classes in person and thinking about the possibility to start grad school and take classes on zoom and possibly not able to do in person lab rotation is a bit discouraging and it makes me so anxious. I hope by August all this is already resolved.
  10. I am deciding between staying in NYC for grad school or moving to Baltimore. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to provide me some inf about living in Baltimore in general and how expensive housing can be. If I decide to move to Baltimore, I will be attending JHU, is there any neighborhood I should be looking at that is cheap, safe, and accessible to public transportation.
  11. Also, do you know if they send early notification to the applicants that they won't be reviewing their app? or do they wait to tell them? I do not think my proposal is related to any disease or treatment but I have heard of cases where students applied and they were told their proposal was ineligible despite of not being related to disease study.
  12. I am getting anxious to hear back from them.
  13. Agreed. As a current PREP, I can say my experience as an scholar has helped me a lot to grow as a scientist and get ready for grad school. I wouldn't change it for the world. About to start grad school this upcoming fall 2020. I am also willing to answer any questions about PREP in general and grad school applications.
  14. @BabyScientist thank you. I spoke with faculties that I am interested in their work at Mount Sinai and all 4 of them are looking for students to take in. Two of them follow up on me and told me if I decide to come to Mount Sinai they will take me in for rotation and if I feel like I like the environment in the lab they would take me in for my PhD thesis. Also, I met with those two faculties in person one more time and also met their lab members. I feel like Mount Sinai would be a great fit. I did the same with NYU Sackler faculties. I know three out of the five faculties I would like to work with have grants to take a grad student this cycle. However, as @DRMF mention, NYU housing is VERY expensive. They offer me $40,380/yr but their apartments cost $1,200-$1,500/month per person (2 students apartment) compare to Mount Sinai which offers me $40,00 and subsidized housing $600-$700/month per person (4-6 students apartment) and Einstein which offers $38,000 with subsidized housing $500/month per person (2-3 students apartment). I like UVA and there are many great faculties I would like to work with, however, I was told part of the contract is that I need to TA in my first and second year. I want to have the opportunity to TA as an option, not as an requirement. If it was only for one semester, I would have been ok with it. But, 4 semester is too much for my liking. I still have Einstein in the mix as it is located in the NYC area and I currently spoke with two faculties that work in pretty cool projects that I potentially see myself joining. As of now it is between Mount Sinai, Einstein, and maybe NYU.
  15. @Marburg-Virus Thank you. This past Wednesday, I did notified the other three schools about my decision of accepting an offer elsewhere. I would like to live in the NYC area and the choices of school that are in NY are good fit for me. But, one thing is that I also liked UVA, there are faculties that I would love to work with, and they are offering me an amazing fellowship in addition to their offer. I only visited Baltimore once, so I do not really know if I would like it, but the school (Hopkins) have a unique program that is very appealing to me. Majority of the faculties I would like to really work with are in NYU, Mount Sinai, and UVA. The structure of the program that I liked the most were Hopkins, Mount Sinai, and NYU. Curriculum wise, I prefer Mount Sinai and NYU. Also, I know Einstein is a great grad school. I did a summer internship there and I liked it a lot and I know they are very invested in their students. So, it's so hard for me to make a decision when each program have parts that I like. I interviewed at Einstein on Feb 12-14 and I heard back from them a week after via phone call and then later that day via email.
  16. There is hope for you, I heard of cases where students in the waiting list get an offer after April 15th. I hope you hear back good news.
  17. I don't know what to do. I received 8 offers but I really love 5 of them and IDK what to do. This is a hard decision to make, they are all great grad schools and they are all my top ones. What to do? any input?
  18. For those who already did their interview at NYU Sackler, did you received the names of the faculty you are interviewing with the same day? My interview starts tomorrow and I haven't received any email about who I'm interviewing with.
  19. For those who already did their interview at NYU Sackler, did you received the names of the faculty you are interviewing with the same day? My interview starts tomorrow and I haven't received any email about who I'm interviewing with.
  20. I received an offer this past Friday. I interviewed two weeks ago for their cancer biology program.
  21. I know their last interview weekend is this week.
  22. Einstein have 4 different interview day (Jan 22-24, Jan 29-31, Feb 12-14, Feb 26-28).
  23. Tufts just sent their interview invite. I hope you hear back good news.
  24. I'm not an international. But, I haven't heard from Tufts either. They may send invites next week or at the end of this week.
