  1. I would also recommend an MA before you applied to PhD programs. You can broaden your coursework, research interests, have a thesis project etc. A BFA, by its very nature, emphasizes different, more technical approaches, and is not particularly well-suited to prepare you for the type of work you need to do as a PhD student in the humanities.
  2. Thanks so much. That is how I feel as well. I suppose I didn't want to give off the impression that I lacked dedication to pursue my degree- it is more that I hope to do it under less precarious circumstances.
  3. Hi all, I am set to begin my PhD in the fall. I was awarded a fellowship and have full funding for 5 years. However, in light of COVID 19, and after receiving an email update on reopening from my university, I'd prefer to \delay my start until next Fall (2021). I want to avoid online courses at all cost, and without going in to too much detail, some of the guidelines the university outlined for reopening simply won't work for my situation personally. Is anyone considering emailing their dept. asking for a late deferral or planning on a leave of absence? My biggest consideration is losing funding or my place in the program.
  4. I am entering the PhD program at Penn in the fall, after much deliberation, and my undergraduate adviser underlined the prestige and breadth of the program.
  5. V&A / Royal College of Art offer a history of design masters and PhD. Supposed to be top notch. I have never seen anyone in the US!
  6. Thank you! I have been to Philadelphia once and it seemed like a cool city. Proximity to NYC is also a perk. Hard to gauge vibe/campus culture but everyone involved with the program seemed incredibly friendly and approachable.
  7. And just for clarity- any additional info about the program would be appreciated. Not just info about its reputation, although that's helpful too!
  8. Also considering Penn (PhD) so would love some more feedback or opinions if anybody has any.
  9. Has anybody received a waitlist or rejection from Stanford? That is my last school..
  10. I think Columbia sent out some or all acceptances in the past few weeks. I applied and didn't hear anything so am expecting a rejection for what it's worth..
  11. Nothing here either (besides a torturous wait.)
  12. Has anybody heard from the combined programs in Film Studies at Yale? Art History / Film Studies, East Asian/Film studies, etc?
  13. Anyone from Yale who has not heard anything at all? My portal looks the same as it has since submission and no emails with news or updates.
  14. Hi all! Nothing further from my POI or the department since my phone call /informal interview a couple of weeks ago now. My POI mentioned the department was placing a huge emphasis on new hires at the moment, specifically in contemporary and media studies, so perhaps that is slowing the admissions process down a bit this year.
