  1. What the heck? Our stories sound really similar. You going to England then? We should meet up! ? It is a shame, isn't it? I am disappointed too that Harvard didn't make much of a showing on this.
  2. I also sent an appeal and got the same email. Tough luck, I guess. I think I'm going to have to decline. I have an offer from the Oxford Education department. Even if I get no funding from them, it would still be about $50,000 cheaper to get the Master's abroad. It's a shame that it seems like so many of us are declining over this. I had always thought that HGSE was a little bit more concerned with the diversity of their classes... Taking $70,000+ out in loans for a one-year Master's in our profession? For a lot of people, that would be close to financial suicide. I don't mean to be so salty but this all is a bit upsetting. I feel like I was admitted almost for no reason. Hope you all stay safe out there. Living right now puts this all into a little bit of perspective--there are much more important things, like changing the lives of our students. Can't wait to see what you all do with your careers!
  3. Does this seem unusual to anyone else? It seems to me that they are awarding needs-based grants on merit? Or almost randomly? I had thought that it was going to be different than this... Earlier forums seemed to indicate more funding was available?
  4. Hi guys! I also got my financial aid letter, but I'm a bit confused. My grant was only $5000, even though my FAFSA "family contribution" ended up being $0? Is that normal? I was hoping for enough in aid + loans to cover tuition at least. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone have any experience with appealing for more aid?
  5. Lol. So, my current grad school just cancelled classes for the rest of the semester, and is planning to put everything online. Harvard has done the same. So peace, Boston. I'm out 'till May at least. ? Goin home baby!
  6. Yeah, that's even worse. Does anyone know why the turn around is so quick and/or does anyone have some tips about deciding to make a commitment after you've gotten your package? I'm a single woman (no dependents, etc.) who has been living in Boston paycheck-to-paycheck for two years after college, and I genuinely have NO idea how I'm going to finance this if I don't get enough aid. I'm not imagining that I will get much, but once the total bill (with living expenses, etc) gets up too high, it's going to be very difficult to make the final commitment to just take out the loans. What do you guys think? Does anyone know anyone who's been through the program and can give some tips?
  7. If you go on to the accepted students' portal, it says something like "by the end of march." Which is actually a bit stressful--that's not too long of a turn around before April 15, ya know?
  8. Lol it seems like the reason we all got that fake-out was because we were all in. Lots of love to everyone, no matter the outcome. Higher Ed '21. Can't wait to see you all there! ❤️❤️❤️
  9. Seriously, guys. Wtf? Is this going to turn into the great fake-out of 2020? ?
  10. Oh my sweet god. If I don't get in after all of that, I'm going to be slightly (and by slightly I mean really) upset. ?
  11. Lol--I kept refreshing the page, and didn't realize that we'd added a page 7. I was like--where is everyone!?!?! Good luck, all! And @Rooj, I can just imagine how sleepless this night is for you! All of us on EST are lucky there at least! ? Hope you all have a fantastic evening/night/morning/afternoon wherever you are, and whatever the outcome!
  12. I've got to believe that it's somewhere in between those two. Isn't it strange that they don't publish an average acceptance rate? So many universities either bury that number deep in an annual report somewhere or go to great lengths not to publish it. Seems like a grab for a lower acceptance rate and more application fees to me. Sigh. So many Euro Universities publish some kind of four-year average, etc... Good luck everyone on HGSE decisions, though! I am excited to hear...
