2022 Canada Admissions SLP thread

I abbreviated all of these things as well and got into all the schools I applied to. I don't think it matters that much in the grand scheme of things!- 1,373 replies

I had accumulated those hours over the course of 3 years. I dont think the year matters. Imo its what you did/learned while gaining those volunteer/work hours that matters! Hope this helps.- 1,373 replies

I applied with a 3.8 sgpa and 3.4 ccgpa. I didn't do very well in my first year courses (I even failed a course), but I still got in, so do not get discouraged by your first year courses because they don't matter here (with the exception of McGill who does value your cGPA). I had just under 900 hours of volunteer/work experience. I wouldn't dwell on other peoples stats too much though, as it can lead to a downward spiral of social comparison. Let me know if you have any curiosities about the UofT program Good luck everyone!- 1,373 replies

Same here! I think it might feel impersonal if all of our cameras are turned off. But do what makes you feel comfortable of course

I ended up choosing UofT because I love how the curriculum is set up. You immediately apply your knowledge in placements that are directly related to the courses you just took rather than doing them simultaneously. Also, from what I've heard, there's a genuine camaraderie within the cohort despite its size (their creative lipdubs on youtube attests to this too!). UofT is also a bigger school compared to some of the others so there are more opportunities for funding if you need it for research, for example. I'm sure all programs have their ups and downs and whichever one you guys end up choosing will be great. In the end, we will all come out as wonderful, competent SLP's!

Got accepted to Toronto and Western, however, I've firmly accepted UofT's offer. Has anyone created a facebook page for UofT yet?

For me, Dalhousie is my top choice. Here is why: The faculty members are also very welcoming and supportive. From what it seems like, staff does a fantastic job at increasing camaraderie of the cohort. If you'd like, you can continue developing research skills by volunteering for a lab, for example. Apart from the program itself, I also like the idea of experiencing life in a city that isnt so expensive. Hopefully this helps someone!

This is incorrect. UofT does allow paid experiences (they mentioned this in their information session), and even if they didn't, you are unable to tailor your experiences to each school on ORPAS. In fact, ORPAS doesn't even ask you to specify whether it was payed or unpayed. Stay informed, and good luck!

- Leadership scholarships - extra curricular activities -Certificates awarded from completing an SLP-related course or conference (this suggests that you are seeking out evidence-based knowledge that is up to date, which is something SLP's are expected to do in their practice). Hope this helps!
