Very sorry to hear that. But don't give up just yet. If possible, you should try again next year. This year has been massively competitive due to pandemic, notwithstanding the fact that most US film studies programs usually accept five applicants (compared to 15 in social science field). I salute you for at least trying. If you're gonna try again, you should take the time to hone your SOP and other documents to their best form possible. Good luck on your endeavor!

I c ... UT Austin seemed to wait list a lot of folks this year and I was rejected sadly. 
UW is my last hope this cycle so keeping my fingers crossed and everybody who is waiting! 

No word on how many are on the waitlist. To be honest I have no idea how many people universities traditionally put on a waitlist, let alone in the midst of a pandemic. 
I spoke with my recommenders to understand my chances in being accepted and the overall influx of applications to universities, scholarships and fellowships. This year is overwhelmingly competitive.

I received word yesterday that I’ve been waitlisted at UW. Not what I was expecting, but I hope I still have a shot here.

I believe UW offers full funding for MA students.

It seems like our only option is to hope to hear something by the end of next week. Keep your hopes up! I'm rooting for us to receive some goods news ??

Yes, I did interview with UW. The questions were very personal as they pertained to my decision to study one thing over another. I imagine the questions changed depending on who they were interviewing. They stressed that this was an informal interview, so it felt more like a casual conversation.
 
What I can say is that decisions go out this month, but they did not specify when. It all depends on when they get through interviews. I hope it’s this week but who knows!

Can't believe Feb is almost over already!
I'm still waiting to hear back from following programs

UT Austin RTF
UW Seattle Cinema and Media Studies

Let's hope March will be less brutal than Feb!

Hi all! I searched the forum and I could not find a topic specific to Film & Media Studies and/or Cinema Studies. I named the thread with both titles for the sake of keyword search. As you all know programs adopt different names. Please use this space to discuss applications, decision anxiety, research and whatever else you see fit!

UC Berkeley Yale NYU University of Washington, Seattle USC University of California, Santa Barbara  
I've only heard back from UCSB and unfortunately I was rejected. I'm holding out hope for the others. It only takes one school!

I was also rejected from UC Berkeley, not surprised. But I do have an interview with UW! They reached out to me yesterday.

Do you all think it's safe to assume Yale and NYU will inform us in March?

It looks like UW is working their way through interviews over the next few weeks and decisions will go out in March. They didn't specify when exactly.

@TTFilmMedia They gave me a few time slots to select from so I imagine they sent out requests to others. My research area is in queer cinema, women, gender & sexuality and psychoanalysis.
