  1. I was rejected from JHU GDEC at the end of January. I received an email to check the portal.
  2. @dr_megaevilThank you for starting this thread! I am in a similar situation as @cs4152008. I do not have children yet, but am planning on starting sometime during my doctoral program. It is so helpful to hear from others who are planning to or who already have children. I really appreciate when programs address this topic and state that they are supportive of students who plan on having kids. I hope that most programs are flexible and supportive. Have any of you gotten a feeling from programs regarding whether classes will be in-person or virtual in the fall? I know how hard it is to predict what will happen between now and then, but it would really help with planning purposes for those who would be moving to a new city! I imagine those with children would especially want to know this.
  3. Good morning! I received a rejection from Johns Hopkins Epi today. I interviewed with them two weeks ago and didn't feel it was a great fit, so I'm not completely surprised. Congratulations to everyone who got in!
  4. Hi everyone! Just wanted to provide an update. I was accepted to U Michigan's Epi PhD program today. I was surprised to hear from them so soon, as they stated in the interview that decisions would be released by mid-March. I'm very excited! I hope others will continue to receive great news.
  5. I reached out to a professor within the Infectious Disease Epi track a few months before the application deadline. She responded by essentially saying that the ID department has a policy of not speaking with applicants prior to application submission due to the large volume of emails they receive, and it's not exactly fair if some applicants are able to make a connection with a faculty member while others are not. I'm not sure if all tracks have the same policy, but I found this information helpful.
  6. Would you be comfortable sharing which track within Epi you applied for at Harvard PHS?
  7. No, I applied too and have not heard anything.
  8. Hi! So after receiving that generic "timeline update" email from JHU Epi last week and then not hearing anything, I assumed I was rejected. However, I just received an email asking to schedule an interview with a faculty member. The interview slots are Saturday 1/30 and Monday 2/1. For those who received that email last week and haven't heard anything, don't lose hope!
  9. Hi! I received the email and have not received an interview invite either. I do think it's possible that they sent this to all applicants, not just those who will receive an interview. I'm trying not to read into it too much, but it is hard not to. I was feeling pretty calm about things, but that email definitely made me feel a little anxious!
  10. I'm really not sure. It was not a personalized email, and my name was not even mentioned. I assume it was a mass email sent to many applicants.
  11. Hello! I just received a generic email from Johns Hopkins Epi regarding a "timeline update." The email says that "faculty have just begun the interview step of the application process and may be in touch shortly to set up online interviews with each of the qualified PhD applicants for the Department of Epidemiology." It ended with "we appreciate your application to our department and hope that we are able to speak soon." Sharing just FYI.
  12. First of all, I am terribly sorry about your brother. Many people have already stated what I'm thinking, but I want to say that the fact that you were able to complete your applications is a major accomplishment. Also--something that I've been trying to remind myself regularly--what these schools decide to do regarding your application says nothing about your value, who you are as a person, or your career potential. All of us applied not knowing whether we had a chance of getting accepted, and I think we are all brave for that. You will not have to be in your current job forever, and something great will absolutely work out for you. Please don't give up.
  13. Hi! I applied to Hopkins GDEC, and have not heard anything yet.
  14. Thank you! And congrats on the interview!
  15. I applied too, but haven't heard back. Would you mind telling me whether your application status still says "Submitted" in GSAS? Or has it changed to another status such as "Under Review"? I am anxiously overanalyzing....
  16. Hello! Thank you to everyone who has posted thus far. I'm sure many of us are feeling a bit anxious about the waiting game we're all playing. I just want to say that regardless of the outcome, I think all of us are brave for attempting this next step in our careers. We should all be proud to have chosen professions in the field of Public Health; the world needs us now more than ever! With that being said, I'm interested to see how COVID will affect the admission process this year. I don't know about anyone else, but being stuck at home--as opposed to out socializing--has made it difficult not to dwell on the status of my applications. I'm trying hard not to compulsively check my email Wishing everyone the best!
