  1. Hi all, hope everyone is hanging in there during this last bit of this year's application cycle ? For those of you who didn't get many interviews or offers last year but had more success this year (or anyone that can weigh in on this!), what would you say changed in a year that influenced your success? Or for those who were accepted right off the bat, anything in particular that you thought really made your application stand out? This could range from your experiences, reaching out to PIs, schools you applied to, references, personal statement, or anything else that you can think of and are willing to share - I'd love to hear any input people have (on here or PM)!
  2. Related to the above post, does anyone have any insight on whether the GRE subject will be offered online? If there's no online adaptation, I feel like it would be safe to assume it will be cut from applications, but the April test date is coming up pretty soon and I haven't seen any updates yet!
  3. Hi all! Has anyone spoken with the grad administrator or any PIs at Ryerson about an expected timeline? I know in the past they've started sending out their decisions around today but I'm wondering if things might be later this year.
  4. This is really interesting - thank you so much for sharing! Something else I've been wondering about is that in the situation you describe, it sounds to me (although I may be misunderstanding) like the professor identifies the student they want and as long as they meet the requirements of the committee, the committee will mostly like recommend that student's admission. Something I saw on an older forum (either 2018-19 or 2019-20 admissions) were schools where the committee essentially chooses their top candidate from a professor's shortlist. I can't seem to find that post again and don't remember what school it was referring to, but does anyone know if any schools operate like this? Seems kind of different from most of what I've seen on this forum so maybe I interpreted the person's post wrong but I'd be curious to know more!
  5. Hi all! I've just been looking through forums from previous years to try to better understand how this whole process works and am seeing a lot of variance re: whether faculty have the most say in the student they accept (assuming the student meets all criteria) or whether the committee has the most say. Does anyone have an idea of how exactly this all works? Or if it differs by school, anyone know which schools operate each way? I'm so confused about all of this so if anyone has insight into any part of the admissions process (for any school), I'd love to learn more!
  6. Could the person who posted about the interview with two co-supervisors at UTSC message me please? Only if you're comfortable of course and congratulations!
  7. Congrats!! You should be so proud with all these interviews!! I didn't apply to this school but I'm pretty curious, any idea of what a recruitment weekend entails during covid times?
  8. I'm curious about this too and don't have much info to offer, but one professor that I emailed did specifically ask that I list him as my first choice to ensure he saw my application - not sure if this would be the case for all schools, though. I also noticed that many schools did not specify to list supervisors in order of preference. I'm really hoping that these schools would perceive all supervisors listed as being equal, although I might just be overly optimistic! Anyone have any insight?
  9. How many of you guys are getting interviews (formal or informal) so far? I haven't heard anything from any school and it's so nerve-wracking!
  10. I could definitely seeing those mass zoom calls or open houses being helpful if they were to be options. To anyone who interviews this cycle, keep us posted on how things are being conducted! I'm so curious to see how each school adapts.
  11. How do you guys think the interview process will change this year with things being online? I know some schools would normally have an interview day or more than one interview for some applicants, so do you think there will be some kind of equivalent? I'm not even getting my hopes up about receiving any interviews but am interested in any insight or speculation anyone might be able to offer!
  12. Does anyone know when rejections typically begin? Do they tell people who haven't made it on the shortlist soon after the shortlist is determined or do rejections not start until later on? All this uncertainty is so nerve-wracking!
  13. Without knowing your cGPA or whether the schools you are applying to look at final 2 year GPA vs cGPA, I'm not sure I have a good answer to this question. That said, I really don't think your quant score would hurt your chances if you were to submit your GRE scores! GRE scores aren't going to make or break your application unless they're really terrible which yours clearly are not and from what I've been told by my academic advisor, even a somewhat below average quant score wouldn't be likely to harm you for clinical psych (it is an average, after all, with people having gotten in with both higher AND lower scores!). 153-154 in quant is not bad at all and I don't think anyone in clinical psych would consider those to be a red flag! This is just my opinion, but if you are applying to any schools that specifically look at cGPA, I'd go ahead and submit the GRE scores if they allow it because (1) those are awesome scores that you should be proud of, and (2) a cGPA of below A- might hurt your application if this is a specific requirement whereas I am assuming you absolutely meet the GRE cutoffs, so worst case scenario is that your GRE scores just have no effect. My only concern here is that I have no idea if schools allow you to submit materials like GRE scores past the deadline. As for schools that only require GPA from your final two years, I'm sorry but I don't really know Since your GRE scores are good I personally doubt they'd hurt you, but I'm no expert and hopefully someone else can weigh in!
  14. Thanks so much for sharing this! And congrats on the interview, hope it went really well!
  15. Has anyone had any formal/preliminary interviews with any other schools? I know some schools haven't even reviewed applications yet but I'm curious about others!
  16. This is a really good point! Do you know of any schools that never did require the GRE though? I can't think of any.
