  3. Based on the results section of Grad Cafe, there have already been some acceptances to the Biosciences program (M&I and Immunology home programs, although I think they all make their decisions at pretty much the same time). At the interview, I was told that for my program (M&I) they would make offers for the exact number of spots they had available (6) and then if anyone refused their offer they would make additional acceptances so they ended up with exactly 6 students. I haven't heard anything yet, so I'm assuming I was not among their initial 6 acceptances.
  4. Hey! I was thinking about this too, as I also got accepted to UTSW and BCM! Based on the interview experiences, everyone seemed to take it a lot more seriously than the government of Texas, but it is a frightening thought. I also was feeling this when Texas had the failure of their power grid during the winter storm (would be hard and dangerous to be in that situation, especially as someone from out-of-state without a social network). But I also live in a very liberal big city currently, Philadelphia, and manyy people do not wear masks or take social distancing seriously here either. Even with the shutdowns, many of the apartments around my school are hosting rather large parties with students going about without masks. The city response here also leaves a lot to be desired, and enforcement of the existing regulations is lacking. So the unfortunate thing is that in pretty much any big city, there will be those that take the pandemic seriously and those that don't, and either way it is hard to avoid those that do not. Also, are you leaning towards either UTSW or Baylor? I am having a difficult time deciding between their programs (BBS and I&M). Ultimately, I think I am more likely to pick Baylor because of its access to the Texas Medical Center, but I am interested in what others with similar decisions are thinking and why.
  5. Yeah, I interviewed with them Jan. 21-22. They said that their admissions committee would not be making any decisions until after the Feb. 4-5 interviews, and that admissions decisions could be released between late February and early March. I got a call from one of the faculty who interviewed me telling me I had been accepted yesterday, Feb. 11, and then the official letter came via email immediately after.
  6. The UTSW BBS program said they are shooting to have 75 students in the class. In my interview session, there were ~40 candidates interviewing, and I think they do a total of 6 interview sessions (so if they're all about the same size, that's roughly 240 candidates that they're interviewing). They probably accept around twice as many applicants as they have room for, so around ~150. Therefore, 150/240 = ~63%. This is purely speculative since I don't know their actual acceptance rates post-interview, but should give a rough idea.
  7. Might not be bad news.. Got a rejection from Emory about a week ago.
  8. In my opinion it would be reasonable to send a follow up email at this point. If they said they were going to get back to you by now but haven't, I'm sure other people will be reaching out as well. In any case, I doubt it would affect your chances of getting in to send a friendly email reiterating your interest in their program and asking for a status update.
  9. Hey, I just heard back from UTSW BBS (interested in Molecular Microbiology track) a couple of hours ago with an acceptance. I interviewed this past Thursday/Friday, so their turnaround time was really fast.
  10. I've received an invitation and I know others have as well. However, someone posted in the results today that they got an invitation to interview today, and I believe their admissions is rolling, so more invitations could potentially be sent out in the future.
  11. Just got an invite less than an hour ago! One interview session, March 3-5.
  12. I'm also scheduled to interview Jan 21/22 for the Immuno and Micro track. See ya there For people still waiting, I wouldn't give up hope yet! Many people reported already having their applications transferred to their second choice program and/or being rejected. So if you haven't heard anything at all, it could really just mean that your application is still under review.
  13. They normally will email you to let you know. Don't forget to check your Spam folder too, though! (Some people have reported finding their invites there.)
  14. I just received an invite from UTSW today. Interview weekends were 01/21-01/22, 02/04-02/05, and 02/11-02/12, with each day featuring specific tracks. They request that you select primary and secondary preferences for interview dates, as well as 5-7 faculty that you're interested in talking with. Good luck!
