University of Houston has been radio silent this entire time--sometimes I wonder if the department even got my application, though it does say "submitted" on the portal. My person of interest ignored my introductory emails, the only one who reacted that way.  It was my first choice at the beginning, so the complete lack of response was disappointing.

So I applied to 14 places, was fortunate enough to get 6 interviews, and now it's looking like I might not get into any of them...I've been waitlisted for LSU and EMU, but rejected from the program that was a PERFECT match all around - research, mentorship, externship opportunities - so I'm really surprised and disheartened that perhaps I don't have what it takes to work with the niche population that I want to work with. I apologize for the negative/anxious post; I just needed a platform to vent and just express these feelings because I know that so many of us are going through the same emotions. Good luck everyone

I did some research on programs asking for deposits and decisions before the April 15 deadline.
It seems that most universities are part of the Council of Graduate Schools agreement which specifies that offers with funding have a deadline of April 15. I think PsyD programs are less likely to be part of this agreement, and if your offer has no funding associated with it, then it seems programs can ask for a decision (and deposit) before April 15. The general opinion seems to be that programs that ask for deposits and decisions prior to the 4/15 deadline are more concerned with revenue and less concerned with students' needs.  I have never known an accredited PhD program to ask for a deposit or a decision before 4/15, but I have seen many postings about PsyD programs asking for both. Here is a link with more info:

I did an interview for the early deadline. The professor they paired me with had absolutely no common clinical or research  interests with me, which sort of bothered me. She asked about why clinical psychology, why Nova specifically, research interests, etc. Very soft-ball questions. And then most of the time was spent with me asking questions so make sure you have plenty prepared. They have you do break out rooms with students where you ask more questions. You’ll do a group activity with other applicants and you’ll have to write a short blurb about what the future of psychology would look like. TBH, I got accepted but I’m declining the offer. Absolutely no funding, not even if you TA/RA, and it’s in an incredibly expensive town. Plus your cohort is like 98 people...it just feels like a total diploma factory unfortunately. To each their own of course, but the debt and non-individualized attention is not for me.

I just released my interview spot at Nova. No funding just won't work for me. I hope someone else gets some good news soon!

You write it during your break or right after the interviews end, there’s a deadline. I wrote about tele-health becoming more mainstream, expanding our knowledge about mental illnesses and how to best treat them, decreasing stigmatization around mental illness, etc. I understand, I applied to 10 programs and NSU might be my only acceptance. I’d rather just try again and potentially get into a much better program with a small cohort and funding. The amount of debt that I would accrue at NSU would not be justified by the income I would make as a psychologist or even a professor.

Yes! I’m applying to JB(doing couple’s research) and I’m not sure if I should write U Houston off yet. I have so many schools that I’m assuming rejection from but I can’t say that for sure until like mid-Feb probably.

This is my first cycle applying, so this is my first time experiencing this. I finally feel the sting of seeing a school you applied to send out interview invites and you did not get one  Congratulations to all of the interviewees of Georgia Southern U!!!

I've been dying trying to wait as well! Since it looks like UT-Austin is a bust for me, USA is my next top choice. Fingers crossed!
