  1. Super interesting intel. Maybe it's just making me feel better about not getting an interview invite but that's what I need on this Friday!
  2. Anyone else in the same boat and haven't heard from any schools yet? I know it's still early for the programs with later deadlines but the silence is crazy!
  3. This is just my opinion but I would say a MSc in Statistics is very relevant for many tracks within the Public Health field. I think if you can tailor more of your projects / research / thesis to public health topics then you'd be able to make an easier argument about your abilities to apply statistical methods to the field of PH. I would spend more energy on that and developing a strong SOP and research statement for PhD programs than getting a MPH in the US.
  4. Echoing others to say I'm so sorry for your loss. There are no good words to say to make anything better but I hope you know (and have seen from the many posts) that you have a community here! Sending all the good vibes your way for some good PhD/DrPH news soon.
  5. I haven't heard anything yet (good or bad) from Harvard Health Policy
  6. Yes! I remember them being so funny. I went to one for Harvard too and people were asking things like "Can you tell me how to apply to this program?". I feel like if you can't figure that one out on your own, you might be in the wrong place
  7. Ha! Totally in the same boat. I'll register too just for the fun of it. Can't hurt right?
  8. An unrelated question to the above post - Did anyone apply to and hear news from Utah (Public Health), Arizona (HBHP), or Buffalo (Community Health & HB)? I know everyone is focused on the super top tiers so I haven't seen any info on the forum for these programs.
  9. Hi everyone! I keep getting emails from BU about the Ask Me Anything chats with the Public Health dean. These are obviously generic emails for everyone who has shown interest in the programs but does anyone see a benefit in attending these? There might be information on timelines for acceptances/rejections but I'm not sure what else. Before I totally disregard them, I wanted to check with this group
  10. Hang in there! I'm still waiting on news from every program I applied to so I'm sure there are a ton of people in the same boat. Congrats to everyone getting interviews and acceptances and hopefully we will all hear something soon!
  11. Sorry to hear that news. The silence and waiting is tough and it seems like any news would be better than nothing but then it’s definitely a disappointment when it’s not when you hoped for. My fingers are crossed for something great to come your way!
  12. Was it any of you guys who posted the University at Buffalo acceptance on the results page? If so, I'd love to hear a little more about that process - when you applied, was there an interview, etc. Was this for the Community Health & Health Behavior PhD program? (It's showing as "Public Health, Other" in the result page). Thank you in advance!
  13. I haven't heard from Harvard or Brown since I got the "application is complete/submitted" emails. But since some other have (at least with Harvard), you might not want to use my situation as a guide! Both are definitely reach schools for me.
  14. Congrats! Interesting that it seemed so automated, maybe you'll get another email shortly from faculty. For now, you should take the win
  15. It's a crazy year isn't it! It's helpful to know others are in this position although I wish none of us were. Sending you lots of good luck and hope you get some news soon.
  16. I haven't! Interesting idea though and I've worked from home for years so the idea of being able to do some more off site it appealing to me. Would you mind sharing an example of 1 or 2 programs that you'd suggest I start looking into? Thanks so much for your advice.
  17. Hi all. Asking for some advice here. I originally applied to 5 programs back in Nov/Dec 2020 that were all local to my current area (lucky enough to live somewhere with that many options!). When talking about how competitive programs are this year with my partner, we decided to expand geographies a little bit and that it might make sense to apply to a few more programs and then if they pan out, we can compare geographies more (we have already done a first pass at ruling out places we definitely don't want to live). I have identified 5-6 strong programs in places we might want to live that have deadlines from 1/5 - 3/1 (but would want to get them done asap). I won't be able to do the same super thorough process I did for the first round - reaching out to POIs, holding initial calls, etc, but all the applications would be through SOPHAS so recs and CV are done and I have strong SOPs that can be tailored to these new programs. My main question is - has anyone also decided to add a few more programs after their first round? Does this seem like a reasonable approach or a crazy idea coming from my waiting anxiety? Thanks in advance! Edit: Might be helpful to mention that I'm currently in Boston so the programs in the area are (as you guys all know) super competitive and none can be considered "safety" for me.
  18. Hello! I applied to BU HSR and haven't heard anything yet.
