  1. I emailed and informed them that my circumstances have changed and I have to rescind from the program. You can also state your reason. I made mine brief and they were understanding.
  2. Have you paid your deposit for either schools yet? I chose NYU because their program is clinically focused and it was a bit cheaper. Columbia actually gave me more scholarship but the cost would've still been more than NYU. I would go with NYU since they offered you 30k. Both schools have similar field placements and curriculum. The biggest difference is Columbia offers tracks. Try talking to some current students/alums from both schools!
  3. Hi! I've decided to attend UCLA and I messaged you with a few questions!
  4. I'm still going back and forth between NYU and UCLA but I think I'm leaning more towards UCLA since I'm from CA and it just makes more sense financially. Sorry for all the questions, so you received the field placement survey 2 weeks after you submitted your deposit? Do you know when class registration begins? Thank you!
  5. I have not gotten that survey yet because I just got off the waitlist and I haven't sent in my SIR yet. How long did it take for them to send you the field placement survey?
  6. Should I tell them I'll be attending another school and go into detail why or just say that my circumstances have changed?
  7. I think there's a big chance I'll be attending UCLA instead. Do you think NYU will be ok with that? I'm really worried about any possible repercussions.
  8. Should I go into details and tell them which school I'll be attending or keep it short and just mention that my circumstances have changed with finances being the main reason?
  9. I know I won't be getting my deposit back and I'm fine with that. I committed to NYU and filled out the field placement form as well but I'm thinking of switching to UCLA (I was originally waitlisted but now offered a spot). Do you think I'll be burning bridges by telling NYU that I won't be attending anymore? One of the main reasons is cost tbh since I'm from CA and UCLA would be significantly cheaper. I didn't expect to get off the waitlist at all. I doubt I'll apply to NYU in the future but I just feel kind of bad.
  10. Hey everyone! Has anyone paid their deposit and committed to a school and then changed their mind? How did you go about informing the other school that you're no longer attending?
  11. Hey! I was wondering if you knew anything about UCLA's field placement process? I attended one of their info sessions earlier on and also did some research. On their website, it says having a car is necessary for travel, do you know if that's mandatory? It seems like there's a interview process for 2nd year placements, do you know if we're guaranteed placements? I've been wanting to talk to a UCLA MSW student or alum but they don't seem to have anything on the website that connects you to one.
  12. NYU mentioned that they're planning for in-person or hybrid but aren't 100% sure yet. UCLA's email mentions they expect to return to more in-person learning as well and we'll be updated. I think it's still up in the air for most schools. I have until the 30th to respond to UCLA so I'll think about it a bit more. I'm also not sure how I'll go about telling NYU that I won't be attending if I eventually change my mind and go with UCLA since I've already paid the deposit and even turned in my field placement form.
  13. I wouldn't say I'm in a position where I don't have to take out any loans and is completely without financial worries. I will have to take out some loans (regardless of the school) but most likely won't be the full tuition amount. I also don't have any undergraduate debt so I'm ok with taking out some loans. UCLA is definitely more affordable since I'm a CA resident. I think deep down my heart says NYU because I love NY and it has always been a dream of mine to live there so I feel like this is my chance. I've also done a lot of research on NYU and talked to MSW students there and I feel like their program really aligns with what I want to do. At the same time, UCLA is a great school and I'll probably have better connections for CA jobs.
  14. Thanks for all the info! Was UCLA your top choice? I was so set on going to NYU and even paid my $300 deposit because I didn't expect to get off UCLA's waitlist. I'm a CA resident so attending UCLA would be a bit more affordable tuition wise but NYU also gave me 15k scholarship per year.
  15. Yes, I'm a CA resident! I'm kind of debating my decision now about NYU.
