  1. I just received my acceptance from Columbia Today. I Applied on 1-6 No mention of any financial aid. I'm very excited as this was my number one pick.
  2. Thanks for the update. I also applied in early January. I haven't heard anything yet, but since I saw some January people get rejected a couple weeks ago and now they put you on the waitlist I'm staring to feel like all signs are pointing to a future for me that's not going to be at Columbia.
  3. Cool! Did you apply for Advance standing at both schools?
  4. It seems like the e-mail estimates from Columbia have been very unreliable. I waited until the last minute to put my deposit down. If I were you I'd definitely plan on paying that deposit on the 26th. Hopefully we get positive news and it all works out eventually. I can at least say that I have a bit less anxiety since I paid my deposit now that I know I at least have a spot somewhere for fall.
  5. I'm in the exact same situation. I applied for advanced standing in the first week of January. I just sent my deposit in to NYU today.
  6. I didn't since this thread hasn't been about stats at all like in previous years. That was what someone else posted and I also agreed with him. I'm thinking that when all is said and done I'll probably have a final post with my stats, the programs I applied to and what I ultimately accepted. I think that my be more helpful if people sum up their experiences towards the end of the thread. It seems like your a bit negative with most of your posts? Not trying to start a war, but what are you trying to say masters degrees are easy? So no one should get one? Most of us are trying to get the MSW programs in places the will provide us with desirable field placements and help us advance our careers. Some people might think its easy to get into masters programs that require you to complete a bachelors and maintain a 3.0 or 3.25 GPA. If its so easy how come such a small percentage of the population gets these degrees? Why are they required for clinical licensure? I think you might need to take a breath instead of comparing acceptance rates. No one else here is trying to compare the acceptance rates and put themselves above or below anyone else. On a more productive note are you applying to any programs?
  7. I've been worried about this too. So I appreciate your thoughts on it. It gave me some relief reading this. I'm thinking about paying a deposit this week that I may end up walking away from in a few weeks depending on how things work out. I just don't have a crystal ball. I don't wanna shot myself in the foot either.
  8. Thanks for the reply. I looked through some of the older years as well. It seemed last year they had quite a delay which most people attributed to COVID. Makes sense since no one really knew what things were going to look like a year ago when the shutdowns really took off. Even then it felt like they really pumped the decisions out by late March or April. I guess my only option is to move forward with a different school this week. Once I pay the deposit, get them whatever records they want, get student loans lined up, start looking for housing, start getting a field internship lined up, and whatever else I'll need to do in the coming weeks It will probably be impossible to change course and go with Columbia if they offer me admissions sometime in May. it wouldn't be so frustrating if they could've offered better feedback when they will finish processing all the applications at least this late in the process.
  9. I just pulled up the academic calendar for 2021 at Columbia. It looks like the orientation for advanced standing is on 7-12 Does It seems a little crazy that its less than three months away and they haven't filled all their spots? The Fall semester only starts another month later. It seems like they would have gone through all of the applications by this point and sent out admissions offers and had a waitlist? The last day to even submit an application was over two months ago. I don't wanna come of as complaining, and I know all I can just do is be patient. Just wondering if anyone knows how normal it is for this process to keep dragging out. I thought by this point people awaiting decisions would be outliers. Seems quite a few are still waiting.
  10. Obviously I haven't been too either program since I'm applying to MSW programs as well. Regarding Smith it has a really nice campus in one of my favorite towns in Massachusetts. It may not be an Ivy, but being one of the Seven Sisters it does have affiliation with them and is essentially part of the female Ivy league so there is quite a bit of prestige IMO. It also has some famous and historical alumni. I attended one of their info sessions and got positive vibes from it as well. I withdrew my application only because I received an offer from NYU and was more interested in moving to NYC. I really don't think you can go wrong with Smith, but idk what Penn really offers other than being in Philadelphia, being an Ivy, and probably also having an excellent program. Of course Penn is far more expensive too. Good luck its so hard to chose especially when all your choices are great.
  11. Yeah I thought that was strange too. Honestly it was reading about a lot of people that had what I thought many of these big name schools considered substandard GPAs getting accepted that led me to apply. I would have felt completing these applications with my stats was a total waste of time. Now I'm sitting on acceptances to BC, and NYU and hoping that Columbia will get back to me with good news. If you told me that these are the offers I would have been looking at last year I would've laughed.
  12. Thank you. Hopefully we hear back soon. I only have about a week before NYU is gonna get my deposit money.
  13. I'm sorry to hear that especially since they made you wait so long. I hope that you got into some other great programs.
  14. I don't think they were waiting for Ivy Day unfortunately. I didn't have any luck at least.
