Congrats on the acceptance! I’m sure you’ll be amazing at Oregon if that’s where you decide to go in the end.
-
Being on the waitlist is better than being rejected! It at least means you're still in the running for a spot! I'd reach out to your PoI and ask about how the list looks and where you are on it. Hopefully you have better luck this year getting off it if Harvard is your number one pick! Also, congrats to all the Wisconsin admits!

Congrats on the waitlist and two acceptances! Those are some great programs!
-
As sad as it is to say it, I would say that is most likely the case at this point for Chicago. Congrats to all who got an acceptance though!
-
Congrats to the NYU admit as well if you are on here!

As someone in his third cycle( really only my second since I only applied for two programs my first time around and had no idea what I was doing at first) I will say that the rejections will always sting but you should never take them too personally. Departments are fickle and sometimes it really does boil down to a matter of luck of if you get in or not. Sometimes the department is only taking one admit for the subfield you are in or sometimes the faculty you want to work with is getting ready to go on sabbatical. I think understanding that helps cope with the sting of being rejected and not being discouraged to go again if you don't get into a program your first time around! I hope that helps somewhat!

Out of curiosity what’s your field?

Looks like someone got good news from Uchicago! Congrats to whoever that maybe!
-
Best of luck to everyone waiting on NW! Hope you all hear back today or sometime soon with good news!
-
Congrats to everyone on making it through January. Next week is the start of a wild ride what with it being the first week of February. Could see a number of big announcements next week and the following so I suggest everyone rest up if you can this weekend!
-
Congrats! Hope you get good news about the waitlist soon and that you get other good news from pending apps!
-
Congrats on the good interview! That sounds like good news based on with your POI said about members of the faculty liking your application! Hope you get good news from Rutgers soon!
-
It's definitely stressful though I've been recovering from COVID over the past few days so I've been more focused on that than the stress of waiting but with February coming up in a week the stress is definitely building, ha ha.

I'm hoping this is the case with me and Emory. I actually visited campus and met my POIs and talked to them for about 30-35 mins each about fit and they seemed to think I was a pretty good fit so I'm hoping I don't have to be interviewed but who knows. The waiting is always the hardest part lol
-
I’m sure you’ll knock the interview out of the park! I actually managed to tour Emory and talk to a number of the faculty and current grad students and it seems like a really great program!
-
You've got this! I'm sure you'll nail the interview whenever you have it!
-
Treat it like you would a job interview. Be prepared to get asked questions about what you want to research and why you want to attend that particular program and be ready to ask questions yourself. I know for a few programs the interview is just something of a formality but don't go in expecting it to just be a formality! Best of luck to you both! Out of curiosity are either of you the one who posted the Emory interview in the results?

University endowments never go towards actually productive things like paying grad students or anything like that. Lets also not forget that academic administration has been ballooning across the board which cuts into the bottom line of these universities as well. It's very feasible for universities to both pay grad students more AND keep cohort sizes larger if they wanted to. I can totally confirm what that other poster said about the 2 CP admits for Cornell though; I'm in seminars with a number of Govt professors here at Cornell this semester. I'm sure there is a lot beyond just the bottom line that goes into cohort size determination each year but I do agree with you that such scale backs when these schools make such much profits and have such large endowments seems absurd. -

I plan to be back next year! I'm looking into one year Master's programs and I'm contacting the professor I'm doing research for to see if I can stay on full time after I graduate with this first Master's degree. I'm glad a number of people felt my presence was a positive one; if I was able to bolster the morale of even a few of you than I'm happy to have helped. -

Well everyone, I got a rejection from my last viable school today. I still technically have an app outstanding at Yale but I've honestly written myself out of that race given all the other rejections. I'm looking into Master's programs now. For everyone that has gotten accepted this cycle, congrats! You've really earned them given how much smaller the cohort sizes are this year. For everyone else, there is always next cycle and I will likely see you all then. -

I will likely get to see some of the Cornell admits over Zoom according to the professor I'm in a class with during admit days. I'm looking forward to "meeting" some of you all over Zoom in like..4 weeks! -
