Just goes to show that you can't take rejections from "lower" ranked schools too harshly; each department is looking for something different and just because one department didn't think you'd be a good fit doesn't mean you won't get in elsewhere!

Political Economy and Economics are two VERY different things lol If it's in the political science department I'm guessing Political Economy. Still, congrats on the waitlist. While its obviously not as nice as an acceptance its still somewhat positive!

It depends on who is writing the emails. If its the DGS then they likely sent out all the emails at once or near the same time but some departments have the heads of subfields reach out and they might do that at different times based on their own schedule.

Congrats to everyone who got a Davis admit though and congrats to those who wake up in the morning with good news in their inbox! I am hoping for just SOME news from any school I applied to by the end of this week. Thankfully the Spring semester for me starts next week so I'll have something other than pending decisions to focus on then!

Given that the first admits were posted around an hour or two ago that means they likely went out around 7ish PST, that isn't totally unheard of.

Out of curiosity was it waived completely or optional because at all the schools I applied where the GRE was still optional I asked how that would be factored in and I was told not really until the end of the process when they had already narrowed the field, if at all. While not needing to take the GRE likely did cause a spike the pandemic and economic situation is likely a bigger factor; people will flock towards academic when times are tough because it offers at least SOME stability. That is what a number of professors told me at least.

Congrats to all the people who got accepted at McGill! It's a really great school and a person in my Master's cohort got their undergrad there and loved it.

To those who have applied to UChicago, I heard back from my PoI. They told me that they are still in the process of finalizing who to admit and the committee is still actively meeting so they couldn't give me an exact timeframe. I'm pretty sure we won't be getting any decisions from them this week. Could get something by late next week or the next would be my best guess.

I have no self control so I sent the email like 20 mins ago. Not expecting a reply until morning but as soon as I hear something back I'll let people know.

That's just when the official letters go out though, the email mentioned that departments can informally inform people earlier than that and that's more of what I was thinking; the professor I talked said to expect something in early Feb. I'll shoot them an email tomorrow morning and see if I can get a more concise idea for us though!

Has anyone reached out to Chicago to get a timeline for this cycle? When I talked to a PoI in the Fall they said expect results "early Feb" but not sure if that means within the first week or two weeks. Thinking of reaching out to this PoI tomorrow to ask about timeline if no one else has.
