Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well and just know that you are not alone in the anticipation anxiety you're experiencing... its exhausting lol.  I submitted my application 3 days before the 1/15 deadline for the 2 year program. I kept second guessing my statements and felt too intimated that I ended up applying about 2 months later than I should have. Im pretty annoyed at myself for it but I try to tell myself that this school is a long shot so it helps me not get my hopes up. For those who applied to UCLA, when did you submit your application?

I submitted mine on the due date ? I was going to wait until the next application cycle and then decided about two months before that I was going to apply this time around. From what I've heard, it doesn't quite matter when you submitted it! Sounds like you put a lot of time and effort into your application though so I'm sure it will be fine! :)

  2. This whole process is definitely driving me crazy! I saw on a Facebook group that someone reached out to SDSU admissions and they said not to expect decisions until April-June, which to me seems like such a long time?? I'm hoping that they start coming out this month instead though! Did you guys apply to any other schools?

    has anyone heard from UCLA?

Nope:( I check my email like 40 times a day though lol. They're supposedly going to start sending out decisions this week and continue through mid-march.  Some people who received an offer for Title IV heard back a few weeks ago and I think a few regular applicants heard back late last week as well. We should hopefully be hearing back really soon!

Thank you! I had a 3.0 in my last two years of undergrad, and I've worked in mental health/non-public school counseling for the past 5 years. I heard back from them on Friday 2/18 and they gave me a couple of weeks to decide. When I talked to the admissions folks about being admitted in to the IFG concentration they were saying early-mid march is when folx will hear back. Hope you hear back soon!!! :)

Still waiting to hear back from UC Berkeley and according to @bananamuffin Berkeley should be notifying students by end of week but I've also seen March 15th on another section of the UCB msw site.

Sounds like you have some great experience under your belt!:) Congratulations again, that's so exciting!! And yes, I'm hoping to hear back within the next couple of weeks here!

I think for Berkeley they'll start sending them out this week and then through the 15th! Going to be an exciting couple of weeks for sure!(:

Hey y'all, just made an account to post on here lol. I was checking at the UCB MSW page and they are saying applicants should be notified by March 15th. I did receive my acceptance for SFSU under the Title IV-E program and will more than likely be going there! Good luck y'all!

Congrats on the SFSU acceptance and stipend, that's so exciting!! Would you feel comfortable sharing your stats and when you heard back from them?

Wow congratulations!! That's so exciting:) I haven't heard back but hopefully sometime next week. Would you feel comfortable sharing your stats? Like GPA and experience in the field?

    Hi Fiofarrell17,

if you dont mind me asking why is san francisco your top choice? I am applying as an international student from United Kingdom and just trying to get a good understanding of the pros and cons

how exciting!! SFSU is my top choice for a couple reasons. I absolutely love the city of San Francisco and the campus as well. I also am looking to go into child welfare after I graduate and their program offers some good classes for that. Furthermore, the bay area has tons of opportunities for field work and job opportunities, so I feel like it's a great place to become involved with the community and have a great choice of potential social work experiences while in school, and after it as well. Their website doesn't have too much information unfortunately, and I'm not sure how research focused they are, but I'm looking to go into the clinical route so I feel as if it's a good match for me!

Has anyone applied to San Francisco state? i have not heard anything back and applied last october.

Hi! I actually just email them about 20 minutes ago and they just responded to me. They said they will be sending out decisions starting early in March, and then throughout the month. He also let me know that they received 358 applications and have room for 40. Looks like a pretty low acceptance rate this year but fingers crossed! It's my top choice

Just saw an update from UCLA Luskin on twitter posted 6 days ago! It says "Admissions update! Thank you to everyone who applied to our MSW program this year! Applications for Fall 21 are now closed and we are reviewing applications. Decisions will start going out in 2 weeks and continue through mid-March. Applications for Fall 22 will open in September!"

So decisions should start coming out on the 24th ☠️

I'm on a facebook group with other people and some people heard back today! The anxiety continues ?

  10. Hi everyone! I saw this information posted in another thread and thought maybe it could be beneficial to people who check this one. UCLA's Luskin department tweeted on 2/10 that they would start sending out admission responses in 2 weeks, so around 2/24, and that they would continue sending out admission decisions through mid-march! My anxiety has been crazy lately so it's reassuring getting some definitive answers! :)

    Hey all!

I'm waiting to hear back from the following and wanted to know if anyone has heard back from these schools or have more information on when we will hear back?

Seattle U - expect to hear back by end of February

Berkeley - expect to hear back by March 1st

    SFSU - unclear

CSU East Bay - March to June

    SJSU - February to June

CSU Los Angeles - February (?)

I have been checking my email every two minutes oof. Please feel free to thread dates for your schools.

Hello! I also applied to SFSU. I had found something that said they try to send out decisions 4-6 weeks after the application is forwarded to the department. My application was forwarded on 1/11, so that would mean it's getting close! The waiting game anxiety is real lol. Would you feel comfortable sharing your stats? I know sf state is really competitive and would like to compare myself to other applicants to see where I might stand!

I also applied to UCLA, which is supposed to start notifying by the end of this month, and SDSU is supposed to in March I believe!

I have not yet heard back but I did not know that a lot more people applied this year due to COVID. I thought it would be the opposite haha, now I'm a bit worried. SDSU has been a dream of mine.

Last week I checked my Interfolio and saw that SDSU extended their due date deadline to February 2nd. Did anyone know about this?

I also though it would be less people applying this year, definitely makes me more scared:( I did see that also! I noticed that one of my documents uploaded wrong a few weeks ago and I reached out to the admissions team about it, and mentioned the Feb 2nd deadline. Based on what the woman was saying, it didn't actually get extended and they still required all documents to be submitted by Dec 15th, so I'm not sure why it switched on Interfolio.

I'm really worried too, it's one of my top choices! Fingers crossed for us both:)

For those of you who said they checked the portal and the department is reviewing it, what are you referring to? I didn't see info stated like that in Interfolio or Cal-State Apply. Curious how many of you have also applied to the SDSU MFT program? I already found out I didn't make it to the interview rounds. Pretty bummed about that and worried that CSU SM and SDSU MSW programs are also going to be highly competitive, the other MSW schools I applied to. I worry that my undergraduate CUM GPA of 3.18 is pretty low, though grad school was 3.64, which is an improvement.

Hi! Separate from CalState apply and interfolio, they have an admissions portal where it will state your acceptance. I type in to google "SDSU admission status" to google and it pops up under a page called "I have already applied". From there you login with your RedID and password and click on admission status! And I'm extremely worried as well. I just graduated from undergrad last year, I have a 3.9 GPA but only two years of experience so I'm not sure how that will compare to other applicants. I wouldn't worry though, GPA is definitely not the only thing they consider!!

I am finishing up an app close to the deadline as well... does anyone know if traditionally applying on or near the deadline as opposed to earlier lessens your chances at all?

It shouldn't lessen your chance but I'm under the impression that most schools review the applications in the order they were submitted!

    Nothing yet. :(

They’re my #1, but none of the schools I applied to have sent decisions yet. I’m so nervous! I sent in my applications on the deadline for all schools (I know, not smart) so I imagine that might contribute to the delay for me.

I applied on the deadline date of all my schools too, I'm anxiously awaiting responses but realistically feel like it'll be another month before I hear ?

What do you mean by stats? I was not accepted so after speaking to head of department I got some more field experience and re-applied. ?

Thanks for responding! I was wondering like what GPA you had and what experience you had! It's my top school so I'm just looking to compare where I fall with other applicants :)

Hiii! I also applied to Berkeley, SFSU, CSUEB, SJSU, CSULB and Seattle U. I was accepted into a Boston program last year and deferred (due to COVID).

I'm hoping to stay in the bay area since I'm from here. I saw that Berkeley will let us know by March 1st. I applied to SFSU last year (reapplied this year) and heard in April. I hope that gives you all some context.

Please post if you hear back from any of the bay area schools :)

Thank you for the update with sf state! Would you mind sharing your stats of when you applied to sfsu last year and what the result was? I know it's a competitive program but I have no idea what's even considered a "good" application for grad school. Thank you!

Yeah, I'd love to know acceptance rates too! Ah! Especially for Chicago - that's my top choice.

I'm feeling thankful for all the macro people and recent graduates on the forum. I'm sorry we're together in this wild process, but also glad we have eachother!

My stats are: 3.9 GPA recent liberal arts grad with a couple awards, honor society memberships and a fellowship. I've led two individual research projects that came with a set of policy recommendations and interned for a type of organization I hope to work for in the macro arena, and again as a researcher for a social service agency. Also interned twice in development, once for a pretty major non-profit. My statement talks about wanting to work in both advocacy and policy analysis with the population I'm hoping to serve, which I have a personal connection to. Lots of school related positions in student organizing and whatnot. Also worked part-time with students with disabilities for 3 years, but didn't really emphasize it. And studied abroad a handful of times - not sure if that counts for anything either! But I hope it does!

Absolutely no idea how competitive any of that is for a macro program. So anxious about this process and the fact that it's the good ol' pandemic year. I'm expecting the whole thing to be way harder than usual. But the forum is eerily quiet?

What about you guys? Stats? What do these programs even look for?

I graduated last spring as well! I double majored in Psychology and Criminal Justice with a 3.9 GPA, Cum Laude and Honor's List. I am hoping to work in a more clinical setting, so my experience is a little different. I volunteered at a Domestic Violence shelter for a year in undergrad and for the past year have been working as a counselor at a non-profit in the bay area. I am a little worried that my experiences don't quite add up to other people's and that I may have to apply again next year, but it's so difficult to know what these schools are looking for! Good luck!:)

Hey guys, just posting here to update that I got accepted today off the waitlist! :) The 2-year direct practice route

Hi! I hope that you are enjoying the program! I have applied for Fall 2021 admissions and am driving myself crazy with anxiety about it. I was wondering if you would be willing to share your GPA/experience that you applied with to see how I compare to admitted students? Thank you!:)

  20. Hi everyone! I've applied to SFSU, UCLA, SDSU, Portland State and Chicago. I'm anxious about acceptance rates since I haven't really been able to find much information on them, if anyone has any info on that it would be greatly appreciated! I would love to share personal stats and talk to other people applying to the same schools so I kind of have an idea of who else is applying! Also, has anyone heard back from any of these schools? Thanks!:)
