  1. Bahaha yeah I'm already sitting here checking my email and this thread multiple times a day. Next week I'm not going to be able to get anything done. I've also been trying to piece together what the process looks like for uploading results on the administrative side at SSHRC. There doesn't seem to be any discernible logic to how/when applicants are notified (from what I can tell, it doesn't appear to be based on last name, applicant status, location, or whether an award was granted). My current grand theory is that you are assigned an application number when you submit your application and then all applications are assigned in batches to different administrators who are responsible for uploading results and sending the emails. So when you get your results depends on when some poor admin--who probably just wants to get through the workday like the rest of us--gets to it amidst their other work. I used to work in an administrative role at a college where we had to notify people of results and it pretty much worked like this. Anyone else have any grand theories?
  2. Yes, I've not received the extranet instructions email and I assume (hope?) others have not either. Based on reading last year's thread, we should receive another email, likely next week, giving us access to the extranet, followed by yet another email notifying us that our results have been posted. However, some people last year found their results posted on the extranet before they received the notification email.
  3. Sorry, I misunderstood your point! I thought you were saying you thought SSHRC was weighted against your field due to it being a less common area of study for SSHRC applicants.
  4. Have you looked up the same information for other topics/research areas? I'd want to compare to other less common fields of research before getting worked up about it. And even then, I think the quality of your proposed research matters a lot more than your field. Or at least that's what I tell myself as someone studying a phenomenon that has been historically maligned by academia .
  5. For anyone still waiting to receive the notification email here's what it says in case that eases the anxiety at all Information regarding your doctoral application will be uploaded toward the end of April to the SSHRC Extranet for applicants. You will receive a separate system-generated notification with steps on how to activate your extranet account in order to access the information. If you encounter technical issues in accessing the SSHRC Extranet for Applicants, please contact the Helpdesk at webgrants@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca. For any other questions, do not hesitate to contact us at fellowships@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca. Sincerely, The Research Training Portfolio Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council FYI, it had the subject line "SSHRC Doctoral Awards Results" and was from "Z-Scholarships". It went to my "promotions" folder in Gmail for some reason.
  6. AAAHHH oh my gosh, thank you for sharing! So sounds like they will be sticking with the extranet system for sharing results with applicants rather than snail mail?
  7. I think it's typically end of April or early May depending on how results are sent to applicants (online vs. mail). I read through last year's SSHRC doctoral thread and it seems like most people got their results right on April 30 or even May 1, but it was a weird situation due to COVID -- they changed the way results are sent out. Normally they are sent via snail mail, but SSHRC set up an extranet system for applicants to check their results online. I'm not sure how the results will be sent this year. I personally hope they stick with the online system 'cause it's a bit faster.
  8. Farhsa8 and stuart_d -- thank you for the replies! I'll probably wait to find out whether I've been rejected from the program before reaching out to SSHRC but definitely a great suggestion.
  9. Hi folks. I have a dumb question related to SSHRC that I'm hoping someone here might know the answer to. I've applied to a PhD program -- only one due to the fact that it's in my city and I can't move for the foreseeable future -- and to SSHRC. But as someone who is currently 'unaffiliated' (I finished my MA in 2018 and have been working full-time in an unrelated field since then), I applied directly to SSHRC. So here's the question: What happens if I don't get into the program but get a SSHRC? Is that even possible? Is there any communication between SSHRC and the university even though I'm not a current student? Any insight is greatly appreciated!
