  1. Hi everyone, I'm going to start a Master's at Columbia University in Fall 2022. I'm an international student (Germany) and am thinking about getting a loan to partially finance the degree. Does anyone have any advice/recommendations/resources on this topic, specifically for international students? Thanks!
  2. Hello All, does anyone have any experience/advice for asking for financial aid after a deferral? I was admitted to Columbia SIPA for Fall 2021 intake, but deferred to Fall 2022 due to a professional opportunity. My initial offer didn't come with any financial aid, and I didn't try negotiating at the time. I don't have much hope, but my mindset is that I don't loose anything by trying to get some aid. If anyone here as tried doing this before (of course especially at SIPA), I'd much appreciate your advice!
  3. Hi guys, I'm thinking about asking for a deferral from Columbia SIPA. Was admitted into their MIA in March, and am thrilled, but it looks like starting one year later would work better for my timeline. I'm really happy about my spot and don't want to give it up (I don't want to re-apply and risk not getting in again next year), so am thinking about the deferral process. Does anyone have any experiences with this? I will try arguing for the "extraordinary professional opportunity", but not sure that my job will hold up to their standard. I guess the problem is that I don't know what their standard is to start! I do have a cool position right now, and it is relevant to SIPA/my specialization, but I'm very junior (just turned 23 so I think that's ok) and only started there recently. So it is not like I have a significant promotion coming up or some management/leadership duty that I can't give up. If anyone has any stories with the deferral process, I'd love to hear it Maybe the way you went about asking for one, how you framed your story,..Thanks!
  4. Congrats on your acceptance! Would you mind telling me a bit about your profile? I know I keep asking this question in this thread, but as the cohort for this double degree is only about 20 people, each answer is super valuable to me in deciding whether I should give it another shot next year
  5. Actually, can I ask you as well - what is your profile? I'm thinking about re-trying next year, so any insight would be nice
  6. Congrats on your acceptance!! Yeah, thing is that I didn't recieve any aid from SIPA and I was not prepared for having to pay their full tuition fees for the full two years. SIPA with aid, or SIPA-Sciences Po without aid would have been kind of okay, but looks like I'm gonna have to turn down SIPA and just not go to grad school this year ?
  7. Hi, congrats on your acceptances!! May I ask what profile you have? I was admitted to SIPA, but rejected fom the SIPA-Sciences Po double degree, which was my dream program (so I'm a bit gutted tbh). Would be super interesting to know what the double degree admission comittee was looking for!
  8. Hey guys, did you get news? I was admitted into SIPA yesterday, and now just recieved a rejection from Sciences Po for the SIPA-PSIA dual degree.
  9. Does anyone know what happens to the financial aid of people who turn down the offer? Does it get redistributed to other admitted students? I didn't end up recieving any updates on my account so it looks like I didn't get any aid, but without it SIPA is sooo expensive ?
  10. I also got in!? No word on funding either, I'm hoping for an update - looks like they are still sending them out so I'll be checking the portal for the next hours haha
  11. I just tried calling the admissions office, but it went straight to a recorded "we're working remotely, please email us" voice message, after which I was disconnected. So I guess they are not taking calls atm, might email them later
  12. I also applied for the dual degree, haven't heard anything either. I think we might still have to wait a little while for that one
  13. nevermind, i can log in again. but it was weird, for a good ten minutes i couldn't, and other sites were loading fine so it wasnt my wifi that was being fussy
  14. guys, the system is not letting me access the SIPA application login page... it says "server error" - looks like something is happening?!
  15. Lets hope he was an outlier! If you're still reading this, sincere congratulations on your acceptance - but it really did not help with anxiety for the rest of us?
  16. Are you guys all waiting for MPA results, or also MIA? I applied to the MIA and haven't heard anything (so I guess that makes five of us?)
  17. Ah okay! No, I didn't study at Sciences Po, I went to a school in Germany I just asked because if you had studied in Paris, I would have asked you how it was. But your detailed answer is really helpful anyways, thanks!
  18. Interesting! Did you study at the paris campus? Good luck to you too!
  19. What I know is that the dual degree admissions are not rolling. Instead, all applications are evaluated after the dual degree deadline (in our case January 10th), and then they make their decisions. So SIPA-SPIA dual degree admissions will be released in one batch. But if people applied to a dual degree and a normal sciences po degree, then they may hear from the dual degree at a different time than from the "normal" degree
  20. Same, looks like Friday will be when the rest of the SIPA decisions are released - but since Sciences Po governs the process for the dual degree, I feel like it might be later.. Well, we'll see! I chose the program because I'm from Europe (but love the US), and both schools have a lot of clout on their respective continents, so it would help me either way. And I'd love to attend Columbia, but the price tag for the full two year degree is quite unjustifiable in my opinion?
  21. I also applied to that program, have you heard back from them yet? As I'm also only an applicant I can't really speak to the concerns you raised, but hopefully we can revive this thread a little bit and someone will be able to!
  22. I would love more information about the appeals process as well! I haven't even been admitted yet (hopefully we'll hear from them this week), but in case it happens it would be great to know how to do this.
  23. I also didnt get in - good luck to the rest of you!
