  1. I'm still waiting so I'm pretty sure that means a no for me. Even if they let me in I'm not sure if/how I can afford USC (assuming that I'm not going to get much if any scholarships).
  2. It's okay. At least you got in though! USC is hella expensive sadly.
  3. If you're looking to be close to campus, the U street corridor in DC proper might be an ideal fit for you. If you're willing to commute look at Silver Spring, Maryland...it's about a 20 minute drive to campus if you're not stuck in traffic. The DC area including the suburbs are very commuter friendly (pre-Covid). Most people rely on the Metro here to get around.
  4. I guess they've made their decisions. They're holding an online zoom course for those who've been admitted today. I can't imagine them holding a course unless they've already chosen their cohort. Congrats to those who got in.
  5. Extremely agonizing. I check everyday, but nothing...?
  6. Anyone hear anything from USC yet? I'm still one of those who is waiting to hear back from them. I know that they said anytime from now through April, but has anyone seen movement? Thanks.
  7. Yes, it was my first time applying. I didn't realize that they were more interested in literary fiction rather than popular fiction. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I didn't know any better and didn't realize the multitude of schools out there that were fully funded. Hence, I applied to the big name programs: Iowa, Johns Hopkins, Michigan (Helen Zell), Brown, Cornell (I never sounded like any of the Cornell grads...looked at their youtube readings) and UC Irvine.
  8. I'm an older applicant too (37) and have been wondering if that might have worked to my detriment. Obviously no programs would come out and say it, but looking at twitter and Facebook and seeing the much younger applicants being admitted has indeed made me question if I'm "too old" to be admitted to a non-low residency MFA.
  9. That works too. Whatever you guys are most comfortable with.
  10. Shit let's do it guys. Grab the bull by the horns. Direct message me with your email address if interested and I'll put together a group in 7 days if you want. We could meet by zoom. ?✍️?
  11. If anyone on here wants to form a writing group for fiction, let me know. Maybe we can organize something; help each other out and learn from each other. And yes...give honest feedback and suggestions. I too got a lot of "good jobs" but I need some (brutal) honesty if I am to grow as a writer. Thanks.
  12. Thank you so much for doing this! I can breathe now that I know my fate. I was rejected from the 6 schools I applied to. Probably won't try again next year. Congrats to all who got in.
  13. https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-public-affairs-schools/public-policy-analysis-rankings My thinking is that I'll go to the best program that accepts me.
  14. Hi. New to this group and not on Draft. Has anyone heard anything from UC Irvine for Fiction? Or from Johns Hopkins for Fiction either? Thank you.
  15. Here's my two cents. It's Harvard which despite the cost and cost of living will actually render you an incredible return on investment if you choose to go there. Though Duke and Vanderbilt are also fantastic schools, but if I were in your shoes it'd be a no brainer for me. I'd go for Harvard. It'd open more doors for you than you could imagine...more so than Duke and Vanderbilt imho.
