  1. Yeah that's what I remember for the 2-year too, though I wasn't sure how many spots there typically are for advanced standing, I thought I heard it was less than 100 but I could be wrong, I've never seen them report the advanced standing stuff so just curious if it was listed somewhere!
  2. Where are y'all finding these numbers? 145 for the advanced standing seems high but I've never seen numbers reported for it anywhere and when I asked the faculty they just hit me with a "it depends" 🤣 Mental health is the biggest stream offered by far, and so while it has the most interest, it also has the most spaces available to fill compared to some of the smaller ones. The ratio between interest/spaces available probably evens out in competitiveness across the streams and at the end of the day, they're all very competitive. Regardless of stream, everyone should be proud of their achievement and/or not too hard on themselves if things didn't work out as hoped, it's a tough process! OP I believe the waitlist is quite large, and not numbered. I'm not sure how much the advanced-standing wl typically moves but when I got waitlisted 2 years ago for the 2-year program, I didn't get an official rejection until the first/second week of September. Personally, I set a date in mind of when I would move on with other plans if I hadn't heard by because the waitlist stays open so long with no indication of placement/likelihood.
  3. Great thanks!!! I applied for two streams, though I veeeerry much prefer one over the other, and it was one of the smaller ones. Can anyone share how long it took for their SGS to update after they saw their acceptance on ACORN? 😀
  4. Just checked my ACORN, invited! Probably a dumb question, but how do you tell which stream you were accepted to? 😅 My ACORN just says MSW advanced standing. My SGS hasn't updated yet either
  5. Advanced standing only. Acceptances for the 2-year track will not begin until late March - early April. Some international applicants hear earlier, but generally, there's no need to check your portal (or stress) for a few weeks yet if you've applied for the 2-year.
  6. Oh shoot, yeah I'll follow up soon then, someone in their office said we weren't getting them this year (unless accepted) bc of the new portal and so I just assumed that must have been true when I didn't receive anything. I still have access to ACORN from my application years ago but not sure if it's still active or the right info anymore. Good to know, thanks!
  7. In the past years that has definitely been true, when I applied a few years ago I got one, but I didn't get an email about it this year. I think in the information session they may have also said that you only get the JoinID once you've been accepted now since they changed the application portal as of this year. Did you apply this year and get an email from them with the info? Maybe I just didn't get the email if so.
  8. Yeah of course! I had some experience doing research, I had worked two short-term contracts at non-profits doing grant writing, advocacy and communication. I volunteered with a non-profit in a community outreach/organizer role for a while and a crisis text line. When the York PD-BSW application was due I had 2 months of shelter experience which didn't make it onto my MSW application because the deadline was much earlier. York is SUPER social justice based, so I focused my application on systemic issues of the youth homeless shelter system. I would highly recommend chat lines like KidsHelpPhone or Greater Toronto Distress Centre. It can be heavy and challenging but super relevant experience and a great way to get your foot in the door to other jobs working directly with people. Front line jobs are a great starting point as well, I have now worked in the shelter system for over a year and held a counselling job for a while which set me up to get an amazing practicum placement Honestly, do the best you can, sometimes it feels frustrating doing things without immediately seeing results but it's all cumulative, and any experience you can get through work or volunteering makes you a stronger applicant and social worker!
  9. Hey there! I did the exact same last year! I was waitlisted at UofT for the two-year program, wasn't really too surprised as I was fresh from my undergrad and didn't have a lot of experience in the field yet. I did get into the York post-degree BSW around mid-April last year and accepted my offer. I'm just wrapping up my first year in the program and have a really amazing practicum placement lined up for fall. Unfortunately only a BSW can qualify you for advanced standing MSW programs. However, BSW programs do also qualify you as an RSW, which can by itself open a lot of doors if you're looking to be done school as soon as possible. I plan on applying for advanced standing programs next year and by that time I will have added 5000 hours of crisis work and counselling experience from last years application, 700 hours of practicum placement, and significantly stronger academic and professional references. York class sizes are very small and it's really easy to make great connections with the professors. I also didn't want to roll the dice on 2-year UofT again this year as it's super competitive and there are no guarantees of getting in the second time around even with far more experience. The acceptances are super diverse in backgrounds (clinical, social justice, research, etc.) so it's almost impossible to predict who they will accept year to year. Highly recommend the post-degree BSW! Don't panic that you haven't heard back yet, York seems to move on the slower side and the PD-BSW acceptances went out like mid-April to June last year. Hope that helps!
  10. Angela doesn't look through the applications for admission, the applications are review by an admissions committee usually made up of faculty and alumni. I think I remember reading that the committee is potentially different each year and they do not announce who is on it.
  11. Does anyone know around how many applicants are accepted to the Advance Standing MSW program at UofT?
  12. Hello Everyone! Is anyone else starting the York post-degree BSW program this year? I'd love to connect if so!
  13. Hi! Sounds good. I actually talked to Maxine as well and she gave me probably the same number. Financial services and admissions are attached to the same number. It was hard to get through, lots of waiting but defs let me know if you're told anything different!
  14. Hi! I also got into the post-grad York program and couldn't find anything about funding. I called the student financial office and they told me that there is no entry funding associated with this program, because we would be considered transfer students. I also noticed that the program is ineligible for most of their scholarships as well as they are usually for first-year undergrads (high school students), and master's students. There might be bursaries or other funding opportunities for in-semester or the winter semester. To be honest, I was really surprised by the lack of funding, given York is known for giving students great financial aide! If you find anything else I'd love to hear about it!
  15. Ok great! I saw those but I wasn't sure if they gave out any entrance scholarships for the post-degree program, nothing was mentioned in the acceptance letter but I know York doesn't usually cheap out on students haha. If you accept let me know! I will be accepting the program while staying on the waitlist for UofT 2-year. My understanding of the York program is that it's very macro and social justice based, similar to their masters program. It's also very flexible, when I spoke to the admissions person, she said you can chose to schedule all your classes to just 2 days a week, which is great for me as I can keep working and if classes are in person, I can limit that days I have to do the long commute. She also said the first year is all classes but you can choose for the second year to be all practicum if you want, which is really nice! I found this this booklet which really helped, it also has all of the course descriptions: https://www.yorku.ca/laps/sowk/wp-content/uploads/sites/217/2020/11/BSW-Student-Handbook-2020-2021-SEPT-2020-FNL.pdf
  16. Hi! I got accepted to the York post-degree program about 2 weeks ago. I'm still on the waitlist for UofT. I'm just wondering, have you got any information about funding for the post-degree at York? i.e. if there is any? ?
  17. Hoping to see some movement next week once the acceptance deadline has passed!
  18. Anyone accepted to the UofT 2-year MSW planning on declining? ?
  19. I saw from last year's forum the earliest someone heard was about 3 weeks after acceptances went out. Most people heard about a week to 3 weeks after the deadline to accept an offer passed which I believe this year is May 8th/9th. Hopefully we'll see some movement in mid May!
  20. Email at 12:32am to check SGS - waitlisted. Happy to hear before the weekend! Last name O.
  21. Just got a notification at 12:32am via email that I got waitlisted. Confused as to why so late at night but happy to hear before the weekend! Some closure at least! Last name O.
  22. I'm heartbroken, I can't believe they're going to let the rest of us who haven't heard agonize over this all weekend, just to most likely receive a rejection. I can't see any good news coming out after tonight. not very hopeful, thanks for the best wishes
  23. Still haven't heard from UofT, really hard not having any closure going into the weekend...preparing myself for a rejection. Going to be a tough weekend
