Let's being practical, I have barely seen people got out of the waitlist for a later interview or accept. Sorry it sounds harsh. -

Waitlisted by BU PiBS as well, wonder if they did this to all the applicants except for those who got interview invites... -

The tracks under WashU DBBS review applications separately... I know DBBS Immunology was done with sending interview invites. -

Hey! I talked to a PI who's on the committee. Unfortunately, all invitations have been sent out, which means no interview so far equals a silent rejection... Stay positive though, I believe you will get into a great program eventually! (These words are to myself as well!) -

It really depends on programs, some like UNC BBSP, Vandy IGP, etc. do waves, but some program like Harvard BBS will send all interview invitations out at one time. Good luck!! -

My undergrad GPA is about the same and not to mention I am an international applicant! I think you'll have a pretty good chance as long as you drafted a strong PS with clear thoughts about your research experience, what you want, and what made you realize it is time to get a PhD at current stage! -

I applied to CMM this year. International applicants, Bachelor's (Biochem) and Master's degrees (Cell Biology) both in the US, ~ 5 years of post-grad full-time work (research) experience in a research institute. 2 first-author pubs, 3 co-author pubs, and a couple more in preparation. Multiple local and national posters and presentations, etc. Good luck to all of us!- 814 replies

I understand you are concerned about the age. I'm even a couple of years older than you and I'm applying this round as well. International applicant, fairly OK undergrad GPA in a STEM major and a decent master's GPA in biology. I have fewer publications than you do, but two of them first-authored. I can't give you advices but I wish both of us good luck this time! -
2022 Fall PhD applications - international students

I'm not familiar with programs not in the US, but I would definitely apply way more broadly than just four or five programs unless you have somewhere you are confident you would get an offer from or at least an interview. -

Any publications? Abstracts? Conferences? What about your reference letters? At least I would apply more broadly rather than just four programs. -
How much is industry experience worth in grad apps?

Hi there, what's your background like? I'm in the same boat, have been working as a tech in a research institute for 4 years after I got my master's and plan to apply to biomedical sciences for Fall 2022. I'm international tho, even harder for me!- 7 replies

Hi guys, just wanted to get some suggestions on my undergrad GPA. I am an international applicant preparing my PhD applicant in Biomedical Research for 2022 fall semester. My undegrad GPA (major: biochemistry) was 3.1 from a TOP50 public university in the US, honestly I was not thinking of going to a grad school at that time so I didn't really focus on my study in college. After worked a few years in my own country (a non-biomecial field), I came back to the US and got my master's in biology, and my GPA was 3.8. I was thinking of going to a PhD program but I knew my background is still not competitive, so upon graduation, I started to work in a research institute at a TOP3 hospital in the US and it has been 4 years. I work independently and have several publications (1st and co-) and multiple oral and poster presentations in the last few years. Do you think I should briefly explain my low undegrad GPA in my PS? Honestly, I applied to several top programs in the US last year but got rejected from all. I understand it's very competitive for international applicants, but I was wondering if my low undergrad GPA negatively affected my application? Please suggest. Thank you!
