  1. Today I received an email about being granted the Presidential Graduate Research Fellowship from SDSU/UCSD's JDP. This covers out of state tuition for the program. Just waiting on official acceptance letter. Heard from director a few weeks back about them looking for funding for me. I think tomorrow I should get the letter in my email. Also was selected as an Alternate for a Fulbright grant to obtain a doctoral degree abroad. Tough decision but the Fulbright program hasn't given me a definite decision (Yes/No) so it's looking like SDSU/UCSD for me!
  2. @FuturePhDPls Congrats! I received an email from the Dept Head of the GH concentration for the JDP program at SDSU/UCSD this past week. I think they are sorting out and finalizing funding before sending out offers.
  3. @DrPH2022 I applied to the PhD in International Health and Sustainable Development program. Never received an interview and no rejection letter yet.
  4. I am still waiting on Tulane and SDSU/UCSD. I feel like I got a silent rejection from Tulane and I'm not sure about the other.
  5. Thanks for the encouragement. I am not too worried about the Harvard rejection. It didn't hurt. I started laughing actually because I knew it was coming. LOL. I told my mom that I am going to frame the rejection letter for motivational purposes. TBH, Harvard was actually at the bottom of my list. I mostly wanted to attend due to the resources at the African and African American Research Center and the Center for Latin American Studies and my ability to possibly collaborate with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. My conversations with faculty didn't really go anywhere when I was reaching out to potential PI's. I also felt that I wouldn't thrive in such a cut-throat environment. I figured applying anyways would be better than selling myself short without applying. But I can always get those resources and make those networking connections through other people. My first choice is located in Mexico and is CEPH accredited. Unfortunately, I won't hear back from that school until June/July prior to a start in September but the PI that I am working for at the moment from there is Harvard trained and is in charge of a research institute within the Mexican government. I do have back up plans in case the entire cycle goes down in flames. Again, I appreciate the support! Staying mostly optimistic for the school in Mexico!
  6. Received Rejection from Harvard today. Not looking too bright for this season unfortunately.
  7. Received my second rejection of the cycle from Emory. Just waiting for other letters. I am feeling like I won’t be having any luck in this cycle. It seems like Tulane may have already had interviews based on this forum. Emory - Rejection Miami - Rejection Harvard - Waiting SDSU/UCSD - Waiting Tulane - Waiting
  8. Just heard back from Miami. I applied University of Miami - PhD in Prevention Science and Community Health. I got a rejection. Welp. Just waiting to hear back from 4 more schools. Honestly, it didn't sting as much as I thought it would.
  9. Submitting Miami, Tulane, Emory, Hopkins, and Harvard this week. That's basically it for me. Next up are pre-doc and global health fellowship apps. I wish everyone luck in this cycle! It seems that a lot of people want to get into public health because of the pandemic now. I am awaiting my Fulbright decisions which come out in January. I am so anxious but ready for my semester to be done. The waiting game begins literally like next week!
  10. After going through and double checking, I have decided to drop South Florida's application. I couldn't find any faculty to answer my questions and was seriously having issues finding a faculty match because of this. I am unsure if they update their website routinely as well. I am only applying to SDSU/UCSD for the November 15 deadline and the other schools on my list by December 1.
  11. @FuturePhDPls is it me or is this three application process really annoying and very exclusive to only those that can afford it?
  12. Finishing up essays for first round of application deadlines. Anyone else applying to South Florida or Joint Doctoral at SDSU/UCSD?
  13. @CyberC1 I haven't heard of that specific program at UNC. A professor of mine currently has a PhD in Health Behavior from there and is excellent.
  14. @JSKelley I have putting my research experiences and work experiences that relate to data, public health, medicine, etc in that section. I feel like people skim over the CV so it's important to put it out plainly for them.
  15. @PhDhopeful2022 Honestly think your grades sound good! From what I hear, potential research advisor match and research potential are the most important. It seems like you have the research potential from the pubs. I wouldn't worry too much about the quant classes as long as you can show that you are still working to strengthen that area of your skills. PhD apps are also about "right time, right place" too. It never hurts to apply. I think you should have confidence in yourself and your ability to get in. Stay positive! You got this!
