  1. After a LOT of consideration, I've decided to attend Columbia University this upcoming fall semester. I am very grateful to have gotten a significant scholarship from them, though yes, it's still expensive. Overall, NYC is the best place for me personally and for my partner's work. The faculty at Columbia is a huge draw for me, as is the structure of the program itself. Declined my offers from American University, The New School, California College of the Arts, Chapman University, and Emerson College. Thank you so much to everyone here for the support throughout the season!
  2. Hi! Congratulations on the Hollins waitlist! A few vets in Draft (the equivalent of this forum but on Facebook) have confirmed that all of Iowa's acceptances and waitlists have gone out. If you have not heard back from them, unfortunately it's a rejection. You can probably email the department and ask directly at this point since it's so close to 15 April.
  3. I've seen one post from someone declining a Columbia fiction offer, and a friend of mine is planning to decline hers as well, so there has been / will be a bit more movement.
  4. It also appears to have not been updated in some time.
  5. Random question - anyone want to exchange stories? I've got a flash piece (~650 words) I want to submit to a litmag, but I'd love to have someone's eyes on it first. It's an edited version of one of my application portfolio pieces, so one person has looked at it, but I've since added a new scene and changed up some wording. I'll happily workshop a piece of yours in exchange!
  6. I'm so, so happy for you! Every time I saw someone post about Hollins, especially if they were declining an offer, I always thought of you and thought "I really hope MDP gets in off the waitlist!" So this made my evening. I'm so excited for you!!
  7. I'm so sorry, but unfortunately I don't have any advice for external funding. The external funding opportunity that I'm working with doesn't cover full tuition, and it's also extremely, extremely niche (as in, literally part of my eligibility for it boils down to the county where I was raised). It's also not specific to creative writing in general. It is my understanding that external scholarships are not common at all for MFAs. I wish I could offer you better advice.
  8. Thank you so so much! I'm already building a TBR for my local used bookstore to read everything from their faculty. xP also, for anyone still waiting, they did tell me on the phone this morning that they're aiming to get all their decisions out by tomorrow!
  9. Got a call this morning from Columbia - in for fiction with a scholarship far greater than I'd imagined. I'm so grateful and thrilled. Thanks to a fantastic potential external scholarship opportunity, I might be able to afford it if I choose to go, especially combined with the scholarship they gave me. My mentor, an NYT bestselling author, went to Columbia, so this one actually meant a lot to me. This closes out my season at 7a/0w/5r. This group - all of you guys - helped me get through this. This season had so many ups and downs, and it's been a true honor to see so many of you succeed. To those still waiting, or those who didn't get the results you wanted, you're all still amazing, and nothing will ever make you not be a writer. Sorry for the gushy post. Lots of love going around!
  10. Accepted at Emerson for fiction! Apparently funding details are to come. I applied by the Priority Deadline, so they might've not released all of their decisions yet. A friend of mine who applied for Poetry did not hear back today.
  11. I believe it's more likely to be next week, unfortunately. It seems they keep pushing it back, which is extremely nerve-wracking. EDIT: Source: Called them yesterday. It's gettin' way too late in this admissions season, my heart can't take it any longer!
  12. Looks like all of the NYU waitlist notifications have gone out. I didn't hear anything, which I will admit stings, but one of my best friends got waitlisted for Poetry, so that eased the pain a little, in a way, since he's received nothing but rejections til now. I've got high hopes for him.
  13. Just got an acceptance at The New School for Fiction! Super surprised to hear on a weekend! Pretty excited. Decent scholarship.
  14. I ACTUALLY YELLED "YES!!!!" OUT LOUD! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU @MDP! LITERALLY PRAYING TO THE WAITLIST GODS FOR YOU!
  15. This person is just trying to get a rise out of people in a stressful time. I don't think we can even be certain they applied anywhere at all. I think it's best we all just ignore them and be supportive towards each other.
  16. Just got an acceptance from California College of the Arts (CCA) in San Francisco for Fiction! With a pretty great scholarship too. Quite pleased!
  17. It's actually a different university..! The only thing I'm going with regarding the date is a line in an email that said "We hope to have our admissions decisions completed by the 2nd of March." After that, I didn't actually discuss the date with the director, I had a different question to ask.
  18. Quick question - what would you guys do in this case? A program contacted me in mid-February via email (unprompted). The director of the program reached out asking if I had any questions about it, and told me they "hoped to have admissions decisions completed by March 2nd." I responded with a different question and had a nice conversation with the director. Well, March 2nd came and went - absolutely nothing from them, and they didn't answer their phone when I called the general admissions line, either. Should I reply to the director asking whether I should expect a new date? No one else has posted about this school so I don't believe anyone else has heard anything (in other words, it's not just me they've not gotten back to). Or should I just tough it out and wait a bit longer?
  19. I'm almost certain that this means you've been accepted! Congratulations!
  20. Just got an acceptance from Chapman for Fiction!
