  1. Hello all! I just got off the NYU fiction waitlist and officially accepted a spot in their 2024 cohort!!!! This is my 4th year applying I literally feel like I'm going to vomit I'm so excited! ❤️
  2. Hi all, Tuition question: I’m on the waitlist for NYU Fiction, and I can’t seem to find the exact tuition they charge their MFA students. I know that (should I be accepted) I would probably only receive 1/2 reduction on tuition, but does anyone have the exact price?? Thank you!
  3. Hello all! I also received my Iowa rejection today. Did anyone get a personalized/handwritten note from Samantha Chang?
  4. Hello all ❤️ I too was waitlisted for NYU. Attending would be a dream come true. NYU also waitlisted me last year and they were very kind but also a bit mysterious. Does anyone know anything about their process?
  5. Hello! I was waitlisted for fiction at NYU last year, and they notified me very late, around March 20th. I think they have a very drawn-out acceptance process.
  6. They did not, though I did not take advantage of their SASE option that year. Under supplemental information in the portal, they have the option to include a SASE. ("If you wish to have your manuscript sent back to you please send a self-addressed stamped envelope with the correct postage.") I did that this year, and I'm very curious what they'll write on there if anything.
  7. Hello @InfernalDesireMachines Iowa waitlisted me for fiction 2 years ago. Around March 10th(ish?) they emailed to let me know, but when the official "you've been waitlisted" letter came in the mail about a week later, it was postmarked March 1st, so I guess that was around the time they made their official decisions(?) They were very kind, though it ended up being a rejection
  8. Just got my rejection from Columbia for fiction, anyone else?
  9. Just received a waitlist for fiction from NYU! Does anyone have any information about this waitlist? How many people are on it or how fast it moves? Is anyone else waitlisted at NYU? Thank you all ❤️
  10. Yo I am still waiting on Hunter College, NYU, Columbia, and UC Irvine. Does anyone have any information about when they've sent out rejections in the past? Thank you ❤️
  11. Also re Iowa and Iowa waitlist I was wait-listed there last year for fiction. They sent me an email in early March (maybe the 5th or 6th?) to tell me I was on a short list and that they would let me know the answer by April 15. They ended up rejecting me, but they were nice people!
  12. I am waiting on 6 more schools, and I don't know if I'm being pessimistic or realistic but if there was good news and I'd been accepted somewhere, wouldn't I have heard by now? Basically, my question is this: if I'm still waiting on schools at this point, should I just assume they're rejections? So sorry if I'm bumming others out, to answer @loveujungkook's question I'm feeling sad and demoralized. I hope others are doing better ❤️
  13. Congrats on the waitlist and, according to my knowledge, the odds are in your favor to get accepted into at least one out of those three. I was waitlisted at a program last year and though I didn't get in I've heard PLENTY of stories of people who do (including a close friend of mine)! Here's some advice from my old professor: "It wouldn’t hurt to write them or call to say how much you want to go. Having been on the other side of admissions, I know that a person’s enthusiasm can sometimes move the needle. So you don’t want to harass them, but I wouldn’t hesitate to reach out twice to let them know you are hopeful/eager/excited." Best of luck!
  14. I have not heard anything about BU acceptances, but I did just learn that the BU rejections are sent out by one single person who goes through and rejects each person manually. I don't know if this is helpful to anyone, but I thought I'd share!
  15. Draft is a facebook group of other people like us who are waiting to hear back from MFA programs. That group is bigger and news tends to come in on draft before it hits this forum. I am also waiting on all the schools you asked about for fiction. Any news?
  16. Congratulations!!! NYU is a great school and I think we all agree with @dagreenkat : if you got in this app cycle, your writing is definitely "good enough", in fact it's probably great! That said, no one can answer the question you pose but yourself. As you know, writing is demanding and often thankless work. There is no guarantee you'll get paid. There is no guarantee you'll be successful. But if you want to be a writer, this is your chance, and it may be the strongest one you ever get. I know this is kind of intense advice, but I recommend really turning inward and making a firm decision. Will you put writing at the center of your life? If the answer is yes, go to NYU. Will you pursue a traditional career and financial stability? If yes, stay at your work, build your savings, and try again next year (with the knowledge that you might not get in again). Either way you choose, you'll be moving toward a great future. Congrats again!!!
  17. I am also waiting on a bunch of schools (10!) and the limbo state of not knowing is stressing me out hardcore
  18. Just got my rejection from Vanderbilt for fiction 😕
  19. Hey all! I’ve been lurking on the forum the last 2 years and (no one asked for it, but) here’s my two cents on hope and persistence in writing/applications: As a writer, there is so little I can control. I can’t control whether I’ll be published, whether I’ll be accepted into an MFA program, if people like my stories or if I’ll ever make money from my work. The only thing I can control is my endurance and dedication to writing, so this is what I focus on. Here is a quote for the fabulous Melissa Febos on the subject! “I have found a church in art, a form of work that is also a form of worship - it is a means of understanding myself, all my past selves, and all of you as beloved. This is why I will never stop doing it, even if no publisher ever again wants to share the results. Ironically, this kind of investment in the process is a boon to those who seek publication. Tenacity is often cited as the most common characteristic of successful authors. Of many of the talented people I’ve met - classmates, students, friends - many of them no longer write. The ones who have kept doing so have made it central to their lives both external and internal. Writing is hard. It is not the most apparently useful kind of work to do in the world. Most of us are not out here saving any lives but our own, though its power to do that (at least in my case) is uncontestable. The older I get, the less convinced I am about most things, but this is one of the great facts of my life. I cannot imagine nurturing a devotion to any practice more consistently than one which yields the reward of transformation, the assurance of lovability, and the eradication of regret. No professional ambition could possibly matter more than the freedom to return, again and again.” - Melissa Febos, Body Work: The Radical Power of Personal Narrative Good luck to you all ❤️
  20. Hi friends! Happy holidays and happy application cycle! I am applying to Michener and I'm a little confused about the process. I submitted my ApplyTexas online application and got an email from UT, Austin telling me they received my app. I set up my MyStatus account but now I cant figure out how to upload my additional materials (personal statement and manuscript ext.) Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance!
  21. Hello! A friend at BU just told me there was someone who was accepted to both Iowa and BU (for fiction) and decided to go to BU. I am on the Iowa fiction waitlist and would love to know if anyone on draft has mentioned getting a phone call from Iowa saying they are off the waitlist. Or if there has been any talk about Iowa on there in general??? Thank you so much! This limbo space is killing me!
  22. Hi! Thank you so much! I got an email with a letter attached, but they said they would also send the letter via snail mail
  23. Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster. I am waitlisted for Iowa fiction, and literally ANY news about the admissions decisions/fiction cohort/class size/waitlist process would be greatly appreciated. I was rejected from every other program I applied to and going to Iowa would be dream come true!! Thanks! <3
