First time applying- I was waitlisted at U of A and Western, and accepted to U of T. Unfortunately I'm in a bit of a pickle as I'm not sure I can finish BIO 235 (Athabasca) in 3.5 months and was really just hoping I would be accepted to U of A š Congrats to everyone!!! -

Same issue here. When I had to fix a referees email I received an automated reply that said referees have two weeks after Jan 15 to submit, if it gives you some peace of mind. If you haven't already, it might not hurt to double check that they actually completed the reference, not just that they received the invitation. Fingers crossed it gets updated soon! -
Counselling Psychology Canadian Application Forum Fall 2023

Question! Is it possible to apply to counselling programs across Canada without the intention of completing a PhD? I'm in Alberta and am planning on settling down in Alberta, and you only need your master's to practice as a R. Psychologist (as long as you pass the tests and meet the requirements). Obviously I will be applying to programs in-province as well but there are not many. Ideally, I would like to work with children, possibly doing educational and other assessments. Any insight is greatly appreciated!- 416 replies

Same for me - ORPAS itself is $190 which is just crazy to me. Plus, the Casper ends up being around $60 ā¹ļø -

I thought the same thing but saw somewhere (maybe in an old gradcafe forum) that number of applications just keeps increasing. It's also possible people don't know about this site ?āāļø -

The volunteer section is where you are meant to enter any volunteer work and yes, it is very limiting. The 3,000 character limit is for the main statement of intent, which works out to be roughly 500 words. I also worked my volunteer experience into my main statement of intent naturally. -

Should I put my references titles (for ORPAS referee section) as professor or Dr. ? They both have a PhD and both are associate professors -

Ugh thatās so unfortunate! If you donāt mind sharing what was the prerequisite you didnāt have? Or why the one you thought qualify didnāt? And yes, third referee can be employer -

https://slp.utoronto.ca/admissions/mhsc-admission-requirements/ "Applicants must arrange to have two academic referees complete the Confidential Assessment Form and write an academic reference letter. Referees must be fullātime faculty members (normally with a rank of lecturer, sessional lecturer, assistant professor, or higher) at an accredited university. Please note that college instructors are NOT considered to be appropriate academic referees. Forms may be downloaded directly from the ORPAS Application. Academic references are those professors, assistant professors and/or sessional lecturers who know you well enough to write an insightful reference that speaks to your academic capabilities, knowledge and skills." -

Yes definitely include/highlight your research experience. I honestly don't have a clue how ORPAS calculates subGPA, but I do know you'll be able to see it once its been done on ORPAS. -

Where did you see the 500 words? Or does that come up when in ORPAS application? I agree that 500 words for the second section seems quite difficult... -

Hi everyone! First time applying to grad school and feeling excited but also overwhelmed already. Planning to apply to U of T, U of A, and Western. If anyone has tips or is willing to share an example paragraph for how they tailored their SOI to each school, that would be so helpful! Also, getting a little freaked out about the coursework, as it seems U of A has 6 courses per semester which seems absurd to me...how intense are they really?
