Ooo! How I Met Your Mother and Top Chef!! I also have to add The Office, sooo good. 30 Rock, I haven't had a chance to start watching yet, but hopefully I will at some point. As a random, I also love America's Best Dance Crew. Man, I wish I could dance.

Anyone else regretting not applying to more schools?
drpsych replied to waitingNC's topic in Waiting it Out
I don't really regret either way (applied to 9), but I think if anything, maybe I should've applied to 3 less.. but I was nervous and unsure so I guess that was a good amount for me! -
Congrats to both of you!!
-
I definitely miss being in school.. since I've graduated, I've always worked at universities, and it's such a strange feeling to work there but not actually go there.
-
Hahaha.. I got a good laugh out of that one. Thanks

Congrats all! Aww, I hope they are still sending out invites for Arizona State and UT Austin.. I haven't heard from either of them yet :\ Was UT Austin for social psych??
-
I didn't apply but I did hear that a clinical person had heard from them about interviewing..

any "what are you going to do now" fantasies?
drpsych replied to katanianQ's topic in Waiting it Out
Is it REALLY free this year if you go on your birthday?! I'm just wondering because I will be in Florida (actually flying out, and not from Orlando) on my birthday and now am having ideas of switching plans and going and then flying out later hahha -
ha, I read that first here: http://www.socialpsychology.org/reject.htm so I think I was desensitized to this one.. but still funny!
-
Will do, thanks!!

Check your e-mails kids! Berkeley invites have started going out

I'm from the Midwest, but I'm currently on the West Coast and I wish I could stay, but I would have to say that my research interest fit isn't as strong here, so it may be either back to the Midwest for me, or East Coast.. chose where my current top choice was

any "what are you going to do now" fantasies?

Is it bad that this is one of the biggest reasons I'm considering going to my second choice rather than my first? (although I guess maybe my ranks for my schools will change after interviews?) -
** Actually, I'm starting to be paranoid again, so if you have questions and stuff, PM me?? I already sent ones to the people who directly asked me a question on the board.
-
Congrats all!! I've heard back from two schools about interviews and they are actually my top two choices so I'm feeling a little bit more relieved, but still anxious! Like greyline mentioned, who knows how many others they are interviewing!! Good luck to anyone still waiting! It's still really early I think.

Thanks psychology! I guess the field does matter so maybe this would've been better in the psychology boards. They are paying for me so hopefully that's good news!
-
Heh, yeah, I kinda wanna ask, but I'm worried they might think poorly of me for some reason haha.. I just got a phone call about a "Visit Day" but I guess I'll see what the e-mail says when it comes!
-
ha, if it makes you feel better, generally the GRE isn't as important as long as your scores are decent (and 1401-1450 is good!).. afterwards it's about the rest of your app!
-
Is there a difference between when they say Visit Day/Weekend versus Interview Day/Weekend? As in, for Visit Weekends, is it a "you're in as long as you don't act like a complete psycho" type of thing and for Interview Weekends, is it more competitive/"you're up against these people and they can take your spot if you aren't good enough" type of thing? Or are they the same and I read too much into these things?

wow, just did the math.. I think I spent about $850!!

I must be obsessed... (Breakdown of admission notifications)
drpsych replied to adaptations's topic in Waiting it Out
Hahah, wow.. hopefully I will hear back before I am tempted to do this If you want to compile for social psych programs though, please feel free to do so -
Oh! I second that! Also, what kind of mean friends would make that GRE thing a competition?! Ha, serves them right!

Hmm for me my safety schools are: 1. A school that is not that highly ranked (I know this matters less in PhD programs but it matters a tiny bit at least, perhaps in terms of competition), that I have a pretty good research fit with, that I'd be ok with going with but definitely isn't my favorite program and I think I have a very very strong shot of getting into 2. A school I did not actually apply to, but my boss, a prof, pretty much said that if I didn't get into programs, we could talk about working with each other (but also, I don't think the prof thinks I won't get in anywhere?)
-
Well if you're a believer of rankings.. the US news & world report says: 1 Stanford 2 University of Michigan - Ann Arbor 3 Harvard 4 Yale 5 UCLA 6 Princeton 7 Washington University in St. Louis 8 University of California - Santa Barbara 9 Columbia 10 New York University University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign Not applying to psych & law though so can't help there!

Ahh, defensive pessimism. In any case, I was trying my hardest not to come to this thread, but alas, I can no longer hold out. I guess for everyone, the worst and best case scenarios are all rejections or all acceptances, but here are my more realistic ones: Optimistic: 6 acceptances 3 rejections Realistic: 4 acceptances 5 rejections Pessimistic: 2 acceptances 7 rejections ... but I'm ok with my pessimistic one as long as my worst case scenario doesn't happen! :\ Let's hope my realistic predictions are actually realistic!!
