  1. Michener started acceptances 2/24 last year and then rejections 3/1 ish I think. Also Iowa has a track record of calling people over weekends as well so…. TBD. You can also use the search bar in ‘23 draft to find more info about specific programs. I’m glad we’re the same kind of sick. Like having this information gives us any kind of leg up? Haha
  2. Do we think holiday weekend = arctic winter for decisions?
  3. In past years it’s been March 7thish
  4. My understanding is Syracuse poetry goes out a few weeks earlier than fiction and fiction acceptances will be end of Feb and rejections will be a few days later
  5. Ugh I’m having a bit of a day where I’m just really struggling with my job and feeling trapped and supposedly someone just got an NYU call and it’s all kind of compounding on itself. I know a lot of you are in the same defeat spiral even though we are waiting on the majority of our programs but. Ugh. Would love a call.
  6. Just got the madison rejection
  7. Yeah I’m in the same boat. Indiana, JHU, and now UW Madison. 9 to go
  8. Yeah I know! I’m sitting over here with 2 rejections thinking but maaaaybe Iowa? It’s so unlikely but just imagine… I was reading NF today about slot machines and technology and all the things that play off our lizard brain and MFA admissions absolutely fall squarely in that basket. Here’s hoping for some calls…
  9. I’m afraid of pestering them but one of them did help me with my application. I just… am trying to just hold out hope and not make it weird? Update: no insight but should be soon, first readers are mostly done and it’s in faculty hands now
  10. I think there are also maybe more of us? Or we are just more vocal? Because similarly the draft spreadsheet is MUCH more populated than last year’s
  11. Is anyone else in JHU limbo still? Maybe they’re correcting the email before sending it out to everyone else?
  12. Anyone else over here going “maybe Iowa has started calling people but they just aren’t the people on draft/gradcafe”? I need a vacation from myself
  13. I read this five years ago but The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne made me actually smile many times which doesn’t physically happen to me when I read usually. Big recommend
  14. Yes I believe you still need a FAFSA in order to receive your funding
  15. Ok so how I write. I give myself SO MUCH grace. Write every day? No fucking way, you mean set myself up to be disappointed and discouraged? But if I have some time between meetings, etc I will try to get 15 min of handwritten fresh content down. Then, on a day with a bigger chunk of time, I can type it up, work on revisions, etc. I also can let myself curl up with a novel and call that writing, too. Pre-kids, I wrote novels and I don’t reeeeally have the time to keep that up at the moment because so much time can pass between writing sessions. I also put a lot of ideas in my notes app on my phone. But yeah, I need time and help. I feel like I would so regret not doing this if I get in somewhere so I’m just forging on. Life is short!
  16. Me! I think I’m in a similar boat to yours, I have a 1 and 3 year old, am super settled in where I live, went to grad school to get into a more lucrative field 8 years ago. Now I just really want 2-3 years to actually have time and space to write and need some guidance and instruction to improve at a faster clip. It’s starting to feel like my life is the plot of The Giving Tree… “I want money so I can have a house/children,” now I want more intellectual fulfillment/time and luckily have a supportive partner in all this but yes. It’s a stressful endeavor. I don’t think I would target teaching jobs down the road (never say never but…), I think it’s more probable I get a lower key/lower paying version of my current job when I re-enter the workforce.
  17. Maybe it’s the deafening silence of the last couple weeks, but I am settling into such a weird place. It’s like I’m resigning to not getting in anywhere - maybe because that’s self preservation and the most statistically probable outcome? But I still want to know. And I still think it *could* happen and maybe I’m settling into the unknowing because that means it is still a possibility and I’m not hitting the reset button on another full year. Idk, I’m wiped out and a little pessimistic and a little hopeful and it’s taking up more space than it should
  18. They messaged JHU admissions to ask if they were rejected if they hadn’t gotten an admission/waitlist by now and admissions said yes
  19. Hopkins fiction waitlist is out according to draft. Assuming that’s it for acceptances etc for fiction too but I guess we will see
  20. I saw someone from last year say Iowa emailed them to set up a call because they were international
  21. I have legitimately thought of this repeatedly for myself but I don’t think anyone in my life knows enough to pull this off. “Um this is Iowa and you’re in the… school. For the books”
