Are you able to visit and sit in on classes / get a feel for what it would be like to attend?

Do we know what their tuition is? I wonder if anyone is going to slam the door in NYU’s face or if everyone is going to hold out for April to see if they sweeten the deal

Yes I’m a 36 year old applicant and can’t help but notice how many admitted candidates seem fresh out of undergrad but we’ll see how this all shakes out. Part of why I’m applying is I’ve written four novels and it’s so clear I need help to get to the next level. Fingers crossed

I’m in the same boat as you and kind of foolishly assumed I would *probably* get an NYU spot because I live in NYC and wrote about it in my sample and SOP. It’s not over but it’s not looking great. I have 7 rejections (including the Michener and Vandy soft Rs) and am waiting on NYU, Iowa, Brown, UVA. Torture. The not knowing and thinking my phone might ring is likely worse than how I’ll feel with my full slate of rejections? Idk. Solidarity.

Remember when OSU decisions started rolling out over a month ago? I can’t decide if that feels like a year ago or what. It’s been a long month.

Looking at previous years, it seems like they update the portal when they send out your rejection?

I don’t think so, I believe NYU acceptances trickle out over a pretty prolonged timeframe

I’ve taken classes at Gotham and really enjoyed them! I did a fully remote one and an in person one because I’m in NYC and can’t say enough good things about my workshopmates or the instructors. I hope you have a good experience!

All of this. I was listening to the final episode of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Wiser Than Me podcast where she interviews Carol Burnett. Carol said she got to the final round of some audition and they picked the other girl and she just thought, “well it’s her turn, it’s not my turn right now.” I’ve found this to be such a helpful reframe when I want to get down on my writing or the process or whether or not a meritocracy can ever exist around art. Wishing for you all (and myself) that it’s our turn soon but also just settling into the reminder to work hard and be kind and try to maintain a decent sense of character.

Yeah I’m also on the Syracuse R list. If we assume Michener, Michigan, Vandy rejections I’m at: 0a/0w/8r/4p and I’m getting so smoked at work, would love an eject button right about now

Someone on draft got into Iowa for fiction (not me)

Looks like someone got a Syracuse call yesterday (not me). Also I’ve been sending versions of that as a text to my friends all week haha

The MFA writers podcast has an episode on Brown that I found to be very informative

I would just take this as motivation that if you work at this hard enough and long enough many adcoms will recognize the skill

It ain’t over til it’s over! It looks like they notified international people on different time zones last night and I think other fiction calls are going out today

I know… it makes me feel real bad about my pattern vs theirs for this year. I feel like there’s not a whole lot of trollery on the draft spreadsheet but we should know over the next couple days as more news either comes out or doesn’t. I was going to go to this Center for Fiction event in Brooklyn this Weds but can’t bc childcare (not the important part of this story) and Lan Samantha Chang and Jamel Brinkley are going to be there and it’s making me wonder… are Iowa decisions just going to get pushed out indefinitely?

Same plus UVA and a Hail Mary at Stegner that is feeling less likely than ever after my Rs from JHU, UW-Madison, Indiana and the soft R from Vandy 😬🫠

But also don’t these faculty members need to meet and call outside of regular class hours? I’m feeling weirdly hopeful for some calls over the next few days with Feb breaks.
