I finished my M.A. at Boulder last May and, to fill the time while I wait for all those Ph.D acceptance letters to come pouring in (any day now, right?!), I thought I'd pass on some highly relevant Boulder/Denver info. local coffee shop reviews: http://coffeebot.co/ This site adds new reviews for the area about 1-2 times per week. *Back to staring absently at the snow*

Not that this has any real-world relevance, but the increase in spamming/cutesy chitchat on the results page fills me with disproportionate annoyance. It's like trying to land the plane while the other passengers toss airplane peanuts at your head.

After last year's all-around rejections, I think the worst were the myriad variations of: "So, what are you going to do?" and "Oh, well you have a 'plan B,' right?" "You didn't get in anywhere? Why?" As well as anything religious/ shamelessly repeated from a motivational poster. I fully agree with the whole "not meant to be" thing--even the thoughtless passive voice propels you into the vague abyss of misery.

That would be nice, although the message didn't say that the last time I called. I haven't been able to contact a real person to verify, though. I'm game for keeping hope alive, I guess.

I haven't received all my W2 forms yet (grrr . . . ) and I have doubts that I'll get them today. As such, I called the Javits office to ask whether I could get an extension, but the recording that answered said that all the "principle applicants" (?) have been notified by phone already. It also said that those who were not chosen will get letters soon, and if you did not receive a call from the committee, you should assume that "your application was unsuccessful." Erm, all right. I'm guessing then that the FAFSA part is just a formality. This bites.

I'm currently drinking heavily . . . and cooking pancakes. I highly recommend, so long as you remain sober enough to aim the fire extinguisher when the need arises.

I've never had any patience, although I'm also becoming more and more reclusive. The results page owns my soul. Also, I'm spending my afternoon baking cookies. For my dog. Yes, I'm just that cool.

What's the story behind your avatar or username?
lechatgris replied to katerific's topic in Waiting it Out
"Le chat gris" is French for "the gray cat," but (more importantly) is also the name of a pub in the novel The Scarlet Pimpernell, which I highly recommend. Books + pubs = happy (hmmm, I should send this on to the ad. comms in place of my GRE quant. score--I am competent!) The picture is a comic about wine from marriedtothesea.com. -

I'd like to imagine a scene of calm satisfaction, but I'll likely vascillate among hyperventillation, uncontrollable sobbing, and terrified disbelief (wondering when they'll realize their error and rescind my offer). Then, scotch.
