  1. Well, I was accepted to Oxford's DPhil this morning. Just waiting to hear on funding, which will have to be substantial for us to be able to afford to go. At least I didn't get turned down across the board this year.
  2. We're holding out hope, but my application went in with the last gathered field, which means there's much less funding available. I tend to hope for the best while planning for the worst, but I appreciate the encouragement.
  3. Turned down by Harvard on Monday. Called Emory and they let me know today that I was first in line, but that their three initial offers of admission were accepted. That leaves only Oxford's DPhil, but we won't be able to afford it if I am accepted. That's the end of the dream for me. Don't think we'll be able to afford to do this again.
  4. Emailed Harvard and Emory about when I'd hear back. Harvard said all the letters would be mailed out by next week. Emory hasn't responded yet.
  5. Well, I'm told they usually end up going through a long list each year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I was accepted to CGU's PhD right out of my undergrad and I deferred so I could go to Oxford. Kristen de Troyer, with whom I wanted to work at CGU, had gone to St. Andrews between applying and being accepted, so I wasn't too excited to go back, but they tore the program apart that year and told me they weren't taking new students when I was finished with Oxford. I'm not too upset about that, but I do need to get into some kind of program this year.
  6. Congrats on Emory. I'm still waiting to here from them on Hebrew Bible. I did the MSt in Jewish Studies. That was quite an experience. There's nothing quite like studying at Oxford.
  7. I got a rejection email from them at the beginning of February, but that was the Near Eastern side, not the religious studies side.
  8. I got rejected by Yale as well, in addition to PTS.
  9. Congrats, you two! Gotta be a nice feeling.
  10. I may be in the same boat here. I've got one reject from UT - Austin (after an awesome 1.5 hour conversation with Hackett at SBL) and haven't heard a word from UCLA, Emory, Yale, Harvard, or PTS. Don't know if my stats will help, but my undergrad GPA in ANES was 3.73 (3.93 for major). My MSt in Jewish studies from Oxford was a 2:1, or roughly 3.75-ish, and my MA in biblical studies from Trinity Western will be a 4.10. My GRE was V: 167, Q: 160, AW: 4.5. I know all three of my letters were outstanding. I don't know if my family and I can afford to go through all this again, emotionally or financially.
  11. I'm waiting on Emory also (Hebrew Bible), although I didn't get invited to their interview weekend.
  12. I applied to six spots (Near Eastern/Religious Studies) and have already been turned down for one. I haven't heard a word from any of the others, but shows things got rolling in this field in the middle and end of February last year, so I may have more time to wait.
  13. I applied to Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures.
  14. I received notice that my application was rejected by UT - Austin on the 7th.
