  1. I wouldn't assume that. Perhaps the DGS or person you contacted knows that the committee met and that all apps have been reviewed. Keep your spirits up!
  2. I am being "bad" and double posting. Did any of you who posted here get accepted to University of Wisconsin-Madison for Comp/Rhet? I saw the post on the results page.
  3. Search under Rhetoric
  4. I noticed on the results board that someone posted acceptance to U of Wisconsin at Madison for the PhD track. Anyone care to claim, and also, if you don't mind to post your stats? BTW, congrats!
  5. Ah! Interesting work, indeed. Do you use any feminist theory?
  6. That's true. I was thinking about emails and telephone calls instead of mail. So, I guess, there's a whole 'nother day to worry about. lol.
  7. Hey! I am presenting at CEA. I still have to finalize my travel plans. I have yet to see any weekend acceptances on here.
  8. My favorite so far has been one university I applied to sent me an email that said, "Congratulations! You will be pleased to know . . ." I almost stopped reading at that point as my body washed over with emotions, I paused, and then continued to read, "that your application. . ." double gulp! "has been forwarded to the department for review." Really! Yes, really.
  9. I was wondering who got the admit as well. Congratulations to whomever got the admit.
  10. Yes! I have deadlines from 12/1 and 12/15 that I haven't heard a peep back from yet.
  11. They probably don't abide by the council of graduate schools. Some schools don't.
  12. I am more than likely daft, but, what does AWP stand for? Sorry if it appears like a lame question.
  13. I would have waited on sending my SOP out to my top choice until I had written about three or four of them. I should have asked professors to look over my writing sample. I wished I would have made more contact with the programs. I regret paying the amount of $$ I did. Anyone else?
  14. I got a letter dated 12/20 as well, which surprised me as I had been corresponding with people in the program. At least they didn't mail the letter when it was dated!
  15. I would say that this is an extremely good sign. I had a similar experience just about two weeks ago with an email asking for a second writing sample for an assistantship. I take it as only a good sign. I was able to whip up a second writing sample in no time from a previous paper I had revised significantly. I hope you hear good news from this program and that you were able to get in a second writing sample.
  16. I just wanted to check in with rhetoric/composition or rhetoric/writing fellows to see if anyone has received a call for an interview yet? It may be too early, but I was just wondering.
  17. If you are really interested in working in a writing center, then rhet/comp is the way to go, and I do think it is a growing field and here's the data to support it http://www.u.arizona.edu/~enos/ . This also shows funding levels at PhD programs at the time of this study, so it's worth just taking a look. If you are really interested in running a writing center, you'll definitely want to apply to programs where that is the emphasis. Hope this helps.
  18. I know I am coming into this thread months after it was originally posted; however, I just wanted to say thank you for the link.
  19. Why are you concerned that programs won't take your work seriously? I agree with tinapickles who said it's how you frame your work. I think that if you can establish the grounds and needs and find faculty that you want to work with then you've gotten over the hump. If you aren't sure how seriously faculty will take your work, you may want to contact those that you are particularly interested in closely working with to find out what their preferences are and how well you'd fit with them. It is just as much about your work and your fit as it is theirs. Besides, if you are a strong writer, which I suspect you are, then have confidence.
  20. I am not applying to the field, however, I do know a couple of colleagues that are applying to some programs in the mid-west. What's up?
  21. A colleague of mine is very private about his applications.
  22. I feel ya on this one. I have friends who are in the same process as I and are asking me if I have heard anything back yet. I like the T-Shirt idea.
  23. You've applied to 14 programs? I have applied to many of the same programs, and I am curious about the addition of Louisville to your list. I've understood that the program does not have a strong digital rhetoric background. What is your interest?
  24. I cannot believe I am responding to this post. I was snacking on wasabi peas when I read your post and one pea fell out of my fingers and my mouth remained open as I felt the shock of this question run through my thoughts. While I am not going to respond with the actual answer to your question, I will respond with two questions and ask what conventions are you using in your research and why are not going to the convention's rules to look up the answer instead of posting the question on here?
