  1. All of my decisions are in and after crunching numbers it looks like NYU's 2 year MSW program! Money. Thankfully, my awarded scholarship and workstudy bring my tuition and fee's to a very reasonable number - close to some state schools that I had applied to! NYC. Location! I visited NYC for the first time back in February shortly after I was admitted and I was really blown away. Born and raised in the Bay Area there's an excitement about the city that is undeniable! I'm looking forward to the adventure.NYU. It's been a dream school to attend since my undergrad years.Clinical concentration. My work experience has really shown me that I really enjoy providing direct clinical services. I'm interested in pursuing school social work and have a long-term goal of becoming licensed as an lcsw. An even longer-term goal would be pursuing a PHD and teaching. I get the impression that NYU has amongst the best clinical training concentrations in the nation. Combined with professors that share my interests in working with youth and LGBTQ communities the decision to attend becomes very clear! Now the stress is having to find a place to live when I live 3k miles away! Anyone else making the transition to NYC/NYU from the west coast? Cheers
  2. Yesterday I received my big packet from USC. I'm in! No word on financial aid info. and they want a decision by april 8th . The letter was dated March 29 and my application went complete for the Jan. 15th deadline. I really hadn't received much communication from USC up until now and I had to call numerous times just to confirm they received my transcripts and other info back in early February. So try not to fret, if you haven't heard anything yet! Good luck everyone!
  3. Still waiting on USC and Michigan!

I'm in! Got my letter yesterday, best of luck - i'm sure it's in the mail :-)

  4. @MSW Hopeful Sorry for the late reply! I can never remember my password for this forum and have been lazy to reset and do all that haha. Congrats on your acceptance! I know I went through the same feelings when I got that first acceptance letter. Cherish it! A few days ago I received my financial aid award statement from SDSU via email. It appears that I was not awarded any work study or scholarships - but I was awarded some options for loans with good interest rates . From the looks of it, I will personally be declining - but I wish you all the best!
  5. Haven't heard anything from USC yet either, except for that financial aid supplemental form :-(. I also applied to SDSU early January and have yet to hear anything official yet.
  6. I applied early January and have not heard anything official from SDSU. My application appears to have been in review since 02/09 from what I can see on the SDSU Web Portal page. I applied to the 2 year CYF concentration. Best of luck!
  7. I applied to USC as well. Submitted my application the first week of January and have not heard anything yet. I did receive an email recently stating they received my SAR report for financial aid and that I needed to submit a supplemental form. That's about it. The school's portal to check your application online has also been quite slow and I have had to call to make sure they received my transcripts and such because the website did not update :-(.
  8. I just got my acceptance letter from NYU via email which directed me to login online where I was able to view the acceptance letter. Feeling extremely excited/nauseous!! Keep the faith everyone, good luck!
  9. In addition to crying/vomiting/drinking/blacking out that everyone has mentioned I plan on: buying an ipad treating my partner to the 'king's cut' at the house of prime rib (http://www.yelp.com/biz/house-of-prime-rib-san-francisco) Huzzah!
  10. As of 1/27 my status has changed to "Pending Interview". I'm so excited! I have yet to receive any emails or phone calls from the school. I submitted my application on 1/5 with all materials in by 1/7. Has anyone else's status changed yet for CUNY?
  11. @Amaxl If I get into all of my choices? That's a tough one! I will say that I have a friend who is an academic counselor and went to NYU on a full-ride for ed. administration. She still took out about 20k in loans and has advised that the cost of a loan over 10years is definitely something to factor in when deciding to choose between $ vs. $$$$ schools. Having said that, I plan on visiting the schools first and see if location, student body etc. are a good fit. Based on my experiences I would be absolutely thrilled with an acceptance from any of my choices, especially USC or NYU, despite the high cost. I myself am trying not to get discouraged from others' opinions of the high cost of grad school, especially for an MSW. I'm a firm believer in if you do what you love, then the money will follow! I completely agree about your comment regarding the lack of social work support forums. The only relevant grad resources for an MSW are gradcafe, and though I think it's a great site, the social work forum activity pales in comparison to the other disciplines. I'd be interested to hear what ideas you may have for creating a more robust msw grad resource, for sure! Anyway, sorry that's a little long. Hope this gives you some clarity!
  12. Hi Amaxl, Congrats! I am still waiting to hear back from NYU (2yr program) though the website says application is being reviewed by faculty. Sorry I cannot be of any help re: acceptance fee and request for financial aid. but good luck with that as well. Hunter seems to have a great clinical track from what I've read. Also i've heard it is the 'poor-mans' harvard and a much cheaper alternative to NYU and Columbia if price is a concern. All of which gave me more reason to apply there as well for FA'11. If you can afford it, I would say NYU/Columbia. If debt-free is a big concern, Hunter is also a great alternative. Cheers!
  13. Congrats! Just curious, When did you complete and submit your application? It's been about 2 weeks for me now hehe Edit* Woops, nevermind, just read your post up there. Haha. Congrats again!
  14. I completed a majority of my applications the first week of January, with my earliest deadline being January 15 (postmarked). I still have to put the finishing touches on two essays, and I should be done. The wait is definitely killing me for the school that i have already submitted! USC in particular is not updating the website so I'm not sure if my transcripts were received (as I know they were sent out). I absolutely feel the same way! It's been up and down the past two weeks - my sleep has been awful and I've been having weird dreams of opening up my inbox to see some fantastic email from a school (lol). I'm still debating on applying to a 7th school. I originally started out with a list of 4, then added two to the list after speaking with a friend whose also an academic counselor. I'm thinking of University of Chicago, or Boston U. I'm interested in a clinical program and relocating - but not very sure of either region. We'll see, I have to make a decision soon, deadlines are approaching! Best of luck!
