Hey all. This is a thread where we can just let it all hang out and let loose. For me, I HATE how my program is disjointed from the university, i.e. it takes FOREVER for stuff to get from the dept. to the university and get approved. I understand it may be just an issue with bureaucracy, but it sucks anyway. Let it rip!

Hey all. I was wondering if grades received in PhD programs matter. I'm in my first year and just got my first grade so far this semester (B+) when I should have gotten an A- without all the of the subjective BS the professor put in (the class was also a very theoretical/discussion based class, but that's a whole different story). I sort of care because I've been primed my whole life to care about grades, but now that I realize that there is nothing left to strive for since I'm at the highest level of education, are grades really that important? On a side note, I need a 3.0GPA to stay off of academic probation, and a B+ is a 3.3.

Waiting is the worst part! Around when in April do we hear? Early/mid/late??

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you knew if there was a software or something out there that makes the research diagrams I see in journals. They always seem to be in the same format. Also, what is the difference between constructs in rectangles vs. ovals?

My acceptance was kind of two tiered. Back in late March I got an e-mail saying that there was good news and that I would receive a call the next day. Turns out I was waitlisted. Got an e-mail as I was sitting in class on about April 13th saying I was accepted

Acceptance e-mail was sent on 8:34am, I woke up at 9:30am because of my alarm, saw the e-mail on my blackberry, and went back to sleep because I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO CLASS ANYMORE!!

So relieved! Everything worked out in the end!

I wouldn't do that. It just seems unprofessional and to be honest, it really is true what they say in reject letters that they don't have the time to give personalized feedback on why the rejection decision was made. The reason you were rejected is one or a combination of the following: GRE/GPA weren't high enough, recommendations were not stellar and seemed generic, not enough research experience, research interests don't fit, or it was just a really hard year and better applicants applied and accepted.

Applied to NYU Social psch PhD, and got my acceptance to NYU I/O Master's yesterday (3/16) as a consolation..

Most probably you've been rejected or relegated to a MA program. Just being realistic.

Did anyone else who got into the masters instead of PhD get excited when they started reading the letter? It starts off my saying you were accepted to the program. I got so happy until I kept reading on. UGH

I got into the masters program at TC as well, but I applied for the PhD program, and I'm still disappointed. Not going to go here.

Did anyone receive any e-mails from the system saying your application had been processed/forwarded. I checked my inbox and all I ever got was a receipt for my payment.
